Aged 11, I made friends with a classmate who fascinated me with his weird drawings of monster heads with elongated ears and blood dripping from their teeth.

He had seen a new craze emerging from the US and the Kustom Car Culture ~ this was the work of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth who pinstriped cars drew crazy monsters on tee-shirts, created and art form with amazing new shapes in custom and show cars that started an art form that still has an effect on designs and art to this day.

I have gradually collected most of the kits that Revell produced by Ed, however I realised It would be nice to have a model figurine that could oversee his models in my collection and A 1:6th vinyl Dracula was my best chance.

as wanted this figure to depict an iconic image of Ed, where he is dressed in top hat and tails.

The head would need some adaptation in appearance from

The hair line would have to be built up and goatee added so as to change the face shape

First thing I did was to attach the head to the end of a fat handled paintbrush.

This allowed me to be able to rotate and work on the head at the same time as well as to rest in a tube for photography.

Vallejo Plastic Putty applied directly from the thin applicator and used to create additional hair to both head and face.

The putty has to be added in thin layers so as to apply texture and lift
I managed to get another couple of layers on today while I was at the Helicopter Museum for the Club meeting.

While I was waiting for the putty to harden enough, I added some acrylic paints to the rest of the model.

I also started to prepare a casting I had done of a Rat Fink a year or so ago, with some filler and the basics of a tail formed from wire.

Actually it wasn't too bad. Both Darren & I had brought our fan heaters and with both existing air-con units working in reverse we soon had the room warm enough to take our hats and fingerless gloves off. We drew the line at taking off fleases though.

Have had to make a top hat for Ed and was wondering how to do it.
An inspirational moment had me reaching for a 35mm film canister and Posted Image
