Classic box art and for a 1/48 kit the box is actually very trim:![]() This will be almost OOB. The kit was a gift from an air cadet colleague after he'd done a loft clear out and the fuselage was already together: ![]() A bit of plastic card to box in the wheel wells. other wise they'd be see-through (ooh er!). But that will be it, no fancy stuff, so the wings were assembled: ![]() I painted up the pilot figure to clutter up the cockpit which would otherwise be pretty much devoid of detail. He doesn't even have a seat, being fixed to the rear of the cockpit by a lug moulded into his back: ![]() The instrument panel is on the decal sheet, I simply cut it out and fixed it into place with white glue without removing it from the backing: ![]() Et voilą! A nascent Hurricane: ![]() The wing joint needs a bit of filling and the whole thing is a bit clunky, but it looks satisfactorily like a Hurricane. The working U/C is a bit of fun, but I will use the supplied struts and modify the covers to the open configuration. The strip separating the well needs to be removed. Next up adding the rad, tropical carb intake and big guns. Did I mention this is going to be a Panzerknacker?! peebeep |

Funnily enough I have a Mossie residing in the stash. When it was first released (1963-64?) everybody thought it was the bees knees. peebeep |

A quick update. Canopy masked and stuck on with Gator Grip, after scratching up a gun sight. Canopy masking...grrr! A quick blast of black into the exhaust recesses (and while I'm at it the prop blades, gun barrels, exhausts, rad inner and wheels), then out with some Mr Surfacer for a bit of filling/fettling.![]() The trop filter still needs the intake drilling out. Gun barrels got some Alclad steel (so did the exhausts), then sticky onny the guns and rad. Mask off the barrels. Now ready for an overall blast of white primer. ![]() One thing I can't help notice with this build, it's not mega accurate, has raised panel lines etc, but it's a blast doing it! peebeep |

Those canons are outrageous. How much did they slow the aircraft down when fired? |

Just having them on board made them slow enough that they could almost keep pace with, but not overtake, an SM-79. The recoil wouldn't be too bad, I wouldn't think. Two Hurri IIDs were ordered to intercept an SM-79, which they did, but they couldn't catch it. They shot it down with the cannon, but didn't know until the next day, when it was found floating (or at least, the crew were). They didn't know they'd shot it down because they were running out of fuel and ammo, and had to turn back. Imagine the shell trajectories. Edited by Brews, Oct 21 2013, 09:28 PM.

This isn't a bad kit, Paul. I have one in the stash ... bagged with a Bf 109E. It's probably better than a Trumpeter. |

I read somewhere that top speed was pegged to 250mph with the cannon fitted. At a guess cruise might be 200 or less, but if you're geared up for tank killing, then speed is not a priority. With all that weight the range would be severely reduced. peebeep |

Dread to think what damage a 40mm shell might do to a bomber, though presumably it would be AP not explosive. |

I'm sure you lot are aware that I love to take things down to the wire and this year is no different. So after loadsa priming and masking I peeled all the tape off and got to here:![]() Decals were a mix of a couple of bits off the kit sheet - the fin flash had to be modifed - and stuff out of the decal bank. Added a few bits and bobs and here we are: ![]() Not exactly a stunning build but great fun. peebeep |
