Hi everyone
Got this kit for my birthday last week and have done a few bits to it I thought I would share.
[Edit added this extra photo in to show what the finished model will be like]

Like most vinyl kits from Thailand they come in a plastic bag with no instructions and allot of extra flash from the moulding process.

This will be my 5th kit of this type ~ I quite enjoy them as they are quite challenging
Its a bit like a flexible jig-saw puzzle as the vinyl has to be heated and cooled to re-position parts.

So here are the parts where I have trimmed off all the excess vinyl

And the scrap ......

Once the excess was removed I washed the parts and dried them off before I was able to start gluing them together with super glue.

The ABC Robot is armed with a triple barrel machine gun that is fitted on the back of the right hand so as to be above the fist when clenched.

I decided that fibre optics could provide the flashes - so gun barrels were removed and drilled out to accept 1mm fibre optic rod and the hand was then assembled round the rods.

The end of the arm was drilled and the rods drawn through to pass up the arm like veins and then into the body cavity

The rods then pass through the torso emerging just behind the armoured cod piece
so they can travel down the left leg (Harriet notice how I took the photo just so you could see the size of the feet)

Next stage was to get the rods down through the feet and through the tracked souls of the shoes.
As with most figure models, weight distribution is critical - this one is no different and I will have to give him some lead boots.

However the rods still need to pass through so the first thing was to add a conduit through to the bottom.
With this in place I could add the spirals of lead ballast into each shoe.
And then add a sloppy mix of plaster of paris to hold it all together and leave to set.
A pen was placed below the base to keep the plaster fluid level

Plaster of paris now dry and weight of both is 12.25 oz
(that should stop it toppling with a bit of luck)

On to spraying the small bits ....
I do this on a splatter guard - get them from my local Proper Job £1 a time brilliant and when it gets a bit clogged up bit of paint stripper or fairy power spray dos the biz

That's my old cooker hood - turned upside down - mounted in the bench and I use J-cloths as filters

With the rest of the priming done I drilled out a route to get the fibre rods to the eyes
At 2mm these were more rigid and far more brittle so it took some time.

to get as much light through I polished the ends of the rods before gluing in place

Excellent one Andy! Worth the hassle of getting the rod through ... unless you're Mr Mental, that is :wicked: .

You going to 'rust him up'?

Nice choice Andy, I did one of these a few years back....cool robot, it was a far east repop that someone gave me for nowt, (it was either that or he was to bin it !!), that needed a lot of heat to sort out the shapes. it'll look even better with lighting,

General, he must have been one of your better troops.
Must have been for his turnout in the field don't you know.
I see you put him on a pedestal ready for some medals.

Great build Andy.

These models are very popular with some of our younger members.

But that looks very complicated, 'nice'.

Cheers foxy :coolio:

Hi did some more on the electronics side today.

I am using a Picaxe -08M2 board using two outputs to drive two LED's
The first LED is driven via a pulse width modulated output
This allows the LED to slowly ramp up in brilliance and is for the ABC' eyes
The second output controls the cannon flash.

Its intended to look although ABC is getting really wild and just at the last moment his eyes flash to full brilliance and he lets loose with the triple cannon mounted to the back of his right fist.

Once the sequence ends it resets and waits for a period before starting all over again.

The coding is reasonably simple

I videoed the LED's from the rear as they are way too bright for the camera
