Problem is that a number of those unprofitable leases were from DM's tenure.

So how he can blame them for it all is beyond me.

The Mordecai bid was commented on by a few in my local MZ, with worried looks on their faces.

I've seen posts on various boards saying that Modelzone shops are putting up closing down sale posters on their shopfronts.

Got told the same thing as Ed this morning, and by lunchtime the closing down posters were up.

Not looking too good really.

The newest shop, in London's New Oxford Street, is still open and trading with everything 20% off, and some items half price.

I was in there today, but only came away with 1 pot of Tamiya acrylic paint; did not need anything else and nothing else interested me!

In case you hadn't seen today's announcement:

"The business and assets of Amerang, the wholesaler of toy and hobby trade products, and part of the Modelzone group, the struggling model shop, has been purchased by Ripmax Limited via a newly incorporated company, Pinehurst 104 Limited which will trade under the Amerang name. Ripmax is a competitor in the sector and the sale ensures Amerang continues as a going concern. All remaining 18 staff at Amerang will transfer to the new company.

Richard Hawes, Joint Administrator, commented: “We are delighted to have secured a buyer for Amerang, which continues to be an attractive brand given the strength of its customer and supplier base and its reputation in the market.”

Last week the Administrators announced proposals to implement a store closure programme for Modelzone’s 47 retail stores.

Richard Hawes, Nick Edwards and Rob Harding, partners at Deloitte, the business advisory firm, were appointed Joint Administrators to Modelzone Holdings Limited (Modelzone) and certain of its subsidiaries, including Amerang Limited (Amerang) on 26 June.

It seems to be confirmed that WH Smith have bought the name

http://www.scotsman.com/business/retail/wh-smith-unveils-50m-windfall-and-overseas-push-1-3134852

Mind you, before we all get too excited about popping in for a magazine and a few kits, I notice it says: " ... plans to sell Modelzone-branded items ..." - presumably this means things like the r/c helicopters, but not Airfix et al? We will no doubt see.
