Around December 2011 I bought my first ever vinyl kit from one of the guys at IPMS Farnborough and began building it at the start of last year.

I got the base built and filled it with plaster to give it some weight

Was particularly pleased with the dragon's face!

Then on building the figure - initially called Sara - I realised I couldn't paint her without an airbrush, so this was the final spur to go get me one for my birthday last year. Great idea and have never looked back! However, Sara got painted up and got to the point where a lot of work on skin-tone had been done (ahem!) but the face wasn't right. The eyes were too small and the shading on the face looked wrong.

A year and a bit later, and I'm clearing out the office which has been my work room for some time, moving everything into the "man cave" shed and I found Sara left on the self (ahhhh poor girl) and decided it was time to - ahem - finish her off.

I did get some advice about the eyes back in the day, about using Archer decals for the eyes and sourced some last year which have been sitting beside Sara waiting for me to find some interest. So today was the day! I used the smallest of the decals, trimming the top an bottom a little bit as you only ever see the whole pupil of the eye when someone drops ice down your back or you sit on a drawing pin! I then tidied up her face a bit, cleaning off some of the shading I'd done before that was frankly overdone - too much slap on her face!!!

I'm not sure her face has a huge amount of expression now, but I've decided that this is good enough. I've got another kit of Sara I picked up off eBay for next to nothing, plus another vinyl kit in the same range that I will have a go at one day. This was built for the chance to do something different and it was very interesting and was one of my first chance to use the airbrush last year.

Now since this lovely lady has a certain resemblance to my ever loving (hence why I made her brunette instead of blonde), I will rename this to Alina in her honour!

So may I present the delectable Alina - and friend...

You can't see them well in this photo but trust me the eyes are much better than before...

I'm particularly happy with the face of the dragon, that came out exceptionally well I thought

I'm no figure painter as you will all see eventually, but all the stuff I've read says you should be barely able to see any white in the eyes. One of Shep Paines books I have gives examples of the effect. Not a criticism, just an observation which I hope helps.

The Dragon looks very smart, and I hope you took regular breaks doing the skin tones :-)
