This is up next from my workbench.
It is a super looking kit with refined details and full weapons bay. the cockpit leaves something to be desired though I will build it with the canopy closed so it is no biggie really.

The actual aircraft is a large beastie for a 1/72 fighter, check out a dry fit of the fuselage along side the 1/48 Spitfire!

I have Caracal decals and will be doing option 3, North Dakota ANG "Happy Hooligans"

I think H thinks you've gone all frit by not doing a detailed cockpit. :fool:

I just happen to have one of these kits lurking under my desk. The tub is a bit basic, but I'd say it would likely pass muster in the narrow cockpit, even with the hood up.

Well, the H-34 is underway but it can't be shared (yet) as its a review build for SAM ;-)

OK back on topic :wicked:

The cockpit was simply painted Aircraft grey and detailed with the supplied decal for the IP and the rest painted with Vallejo Model Color and seat belts added from wine bottle foil.
The fit all round is absolutely spot on, it is still drying here but they will require a small amount of clean up, but only to eliminate the inevitable seam lines.
The exhaust areas were Alcladded with Jet Exhaust, Steel and Aluminium.
There is no mention made in the instructions for nose weight but I may just add some in the nose cone to err on the side of caution.
I am still undecided whether to have the weapons bay open or just take the easy route and close it up :hmm: . Meng offer a one piece cover or separate doors if it is displayed opened, also there are six missiles included with extended or retracted launch trapezes

oh it just puts the hase one to utter shame, Love it. Was planing on super detailing an old hase one and bring it kicking and screaming into modern world, but whats the point when this beast is out there. Think I really need to pick one up to complete my century series to modern standards.

Cheers Floyd!

Almost ready for main painting now. The intakes needed some attention to get a smooth transition as Meng decided to put the join where there is no panel line so the seam needed completely eliminating, so it was out with the CA & accelerator and sanding sponges. Only a 5 min job tbh so no real issue ;)
I then mixed up a home brew of Interior Green for the weapons/undercarriage bays etc.

Cheers chaps.

The nose pitot was replaced by a (blunted) sewing pin for durability.
I then used Alclad Black primer for the nose cone and anti-glare panel as I was priming other stuff so had it in the AB. If you've never used Alclad primers, they really are very good
The canopies were then masked up along with the nose cone and anti-glare panel. The windscreen fitted and the rest of the cockpit was masked off ready for painting, whilst in the mood for masking wet tissue paper was stuffed into the wheel wells and thenthe weapons bay cover was blutacked in place to act as a mask for that.
The rocket launch rails were hand painted Steel.

So the sewing pin was removed as I kept stabbing myself whilst maneuvering for masking, of which there was a lot after the Grey went on . I used Gunze H57 Aircraft Grey for that which looks spot on for me.
The red wing fences were masked off before being sprayed Gunze H12 Red, a right pain in the proverbial but worth the effort expended I think.
I then examined the rest of the paint job and found some scratches on the intakes and the undersides from my sanding, so these were wet sanded back and resprayed. Following references I added the intake fronts with Alclad Aluminium and whilst I was in the mood for smelly spraying I Alcladded the exhaust areas with Jet Exhaust.
Next I will let this little lot cure before sealing/glossing ready for decals.
I really like this air defence grey scheme, although "just another grey jet" it is somewhat more appealling than modern "grey jets" IMO.

Such a good looking aircraft and such a clean masking and painting job, love it. The more I watch this thread the stronger an urge I have to pick one up and make it my next project.
