Sound the klaxon twice and dive the Submarine!

Ok guys -n- gal's
Venturing one of my favourite subjects with the work of Ed "Big Daddy" Roth.

I got this kit at SMW 2011 and started to put it together but then stopped having filled and put a primer coat on. Guess I had been waiting for some inspiration.

Well the spark has at last happened & I'm starting to get this kit painted ready to be displayed.

I have decided that I do not want to paint RF in the same format as previously seen and wanted to do something a bit different with him.

Ed Roth was a wonderful artist, so in his honour I transposed Rat to Art - I got the idea from a book lent to me by Harriet about Ed and his work.

In the book there is a picture of a painting of RF standing at an easel with a mirror in one hand and a brush in the other doing a self portrait - however the picture on the canvass is not RF but Ed Roth.

Anyway lets see how I get on ...............

Thanks to Harriet, I managed to pick up a miniature easel & canvass for £1 and spent last night slightly modifying & weathering it.

I then made a scale artists paint palette (by eye) together with some brushes and a mahl stick from cotton buds.

For RF's skin tone I used Tamiya PC-8 light green - he needed to look like he was in the studio, so I guessed he would be dressed in dungarees. ;)

Next I took a used cotton bud, cut off the ends and dipped the tip of the tube in a dark paint and the flicked it at the bottom half of the model.

Success this gave the desired paint splatter I wanted and I would do the lighter colours once I had the washed denim look painted on the dungarees.

I now filled in the RF letters with a yellow colour.

thought I would add a couple of other pictures to give a sense of scale and to show Art's brush pot!
