Hi Guys, just a quick question, the big intakes on the engine are covered in gold heat protection, any ideas on the best material to replicate this.

How about the gold "silver paper" that some chocolate bars have? Can't remember which offhand ... B) Or failing that, gold bare metal foil?

Sorry but if I may correct you, it is not a GT40 it is a Ford GT. The modern GT is just a reinvention of the old car not a continuation so can't be called a GT40 for homogenisation purposes.

Yeah, I've managed to salt away all of the SimilR kits so far. One day I may even build them!

So what is your overall impression? Say in comparison to a kerbside Tamiya 1/24 kit to be more fair.

Duncan1098 posted a build thread here and I bought one of these kits on the strength of Duncan's build. Whilst he did report some snags with fit, it's a gorgeous looking package in the box. The decals look so fabulous on the sheet it would seem almost heretical to slice them up with a blade. The problem for me is that I'm shit with car models and want to get a couple of builds under my belt before doing the Ford. The problem with that is that it means God-knows-when I build it.

WHEN can we havea "Churchill nodding dog" smiley?

I want to just go "ooohhh YES" to that link- fantastic- except for my wallet- 'specially with the Red Bullcoming out an' all.

PB, I know what you mean about car kits- actually I think you will find there is far more crossover than you think.

THe biggest drawback (nnnoooo) is the buildign style, whichis very stop start stop start. WIth aircraft models (apart from the cockpit) we spend a lot of time on construction of all secitions of the model, ie airframe, u/c, weapons etc BEFORE we do a final button up and once over and then commit to the paint shop- then decals- then final finish.

With cars, every single part has to be prepared and then painted as you go along, including thesedays, a LOT of decalling too. Then, when we have got to a certain point- we are confronted with -

DUNG DUNG DUNG
