I bought issue 2 today, it has Sea King with it. I got it with the intention of giving the model to my nephew, but I have kept it in the end as it would last about 5 seconds in his hands! I was looking at it, it is clearly 1/72 scale (confirmed by checking the website) and it is actually ok. Alright, it isn't going to win any trophies at a show, but it looks more like a Sea King than the Airfix kit does! Also, if you wanted to spend a few hours titivating some seams and touching it up, it's look pretty credible as a scale model imo. The best part? It was £4.99. I mean, you can't buy a kit for anywhere near that, never mind a built and finished model that is really not that bad. the only downer is that it seems you can only buy the mags on subscription, and I don't want all of them. It wouldn't be so bad but these type of magazines always seem to disappear from the shelves after the first few issues ![]() Anyway, next issue is a Chinook for £7.99 so I reckon I'll look out for it ![]() Jen. |

As I understand it, the reason why part works disappear from newsagents after about Issue No.6 is that the publishers don't accept returns. Which becomes a potential liability for the newsagent. They will order in for reservations but obviously it still means you buy every issue until you cancel. Edited by Walrus, Oct 1 2012, 06:05 PM.

All you need to do is look out on the "model car" stands at airshows/car shows/steam shows etc, if the amount of cars we've seen on those stands is anything to go by, then the first dozen (ish) helicopters will be for sale fairly cheaply next season! |

I got a copy of the Chinook issue from Smiths the other day, here it is with the Sea King![]() Not bad eh? You can see that to look really good the Sea King would need a bit of work, some big seams to clean up, and lots of smaller parts are left in bare plastic, as are the rotors. The Chinook though, being a much simpler shape, is really quite nice. ![]() Seen here with my Airfix one, it doesn't even look that bad. Now I'm not convinced by the colours, and at the very least it needs a coat of flat varnish but I reckon it's ok. I mean, I paid less for both of these models than the Airfix kit cost me, and I then had to put about a weeks work into it. I will probably refinish both of these at some point, and have a couple of bargains sat on my shelf ![]() Jen. |
