Whilst waiting for the B-52 engines and unique ejection seats to be sorted out I thought I'd have a bash at something I wouldn't normally touch with a barge pole.......... a prop driven biplane with lots of string holding it all together........there I said it !

I picked the kit up for a fiver at the MK show, (just wish it had been the pre war scheme version but hey ho),...don't know why but thought it might make a bit of a change and was duly bunged in the loft ! Anyhoo thought I'd dig it out and have a go at it as I've never built a twin winged vintage contraption before. Having said that it's quite a smart looking aircraft especially in the pre war Luftwaffe scheme, (which is what I'll be doing with it as I don't reckon much to the camo version in comparison, just need to order some new decals !). My plan was to weather it to death but I see that the early schemed aircraft were kept pretty much in mint condition being dragged out regularly for NAZI parades and showpieces.

With schemes like these it would be a crime to splosh drab camo over it...

This version is the second incarnation of the kit with more of the old resin parts moulded in plastic but it's still very much a short run model with injection towers all over the place, the worst offenders being in the wheel spats, but nothing that can't be dealt with. Details are vague so scratchbuilding will be the order of the day for a lot of it. I don't want to go too mad though as it's only a change of tack....famous last words !!!

The box...

Contents...

Short run equals, low pressure moulding with vague detail, thick sprue gates, injection stubs, no locating lugs, (but then again no sink marks), thick trailing edges and some flash....lovely !

Not much to show but I've made a start on the cocklepit which is pretty basic and rather small. Extra detail added courtesy of the spares box.....interior painted Gunze RLM 02 grey with W&N oil washes, pastels and Derwent metallic silver and pewter pencils for chipped metal.

Fuselage sides with added bits and pieces....there will be more, after looking at the few photos I have,

Next, instrument panels and engine ...

Cheers all,

Von Melchhoven..................(ze pink with green polka dots baron...)

OMG Melchie is playing with Jerry's kites from between the wars!
It can only herald the end of the world as we know it! :frantic:

It is in the wrong scale too!! We're all going to DIIEEEE!!! :frantic:

Wonder if I will have time to make my Hase 1/72 He51? :hmm:
I have the wrong instructions for the decals Andy so would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction if I can sort out the scheme please.
It is for a Legion Condor camo scheme. Not as pretty as the pre-war colours, but I want a target for my Republican aircraft.

General, I'm extremely impressed with this choice of subject matter, the pre-war schemes are indeed, delicious. I'm sure this is going to be a complete corker.

A little birdy tells me that Modelzone are doing a deal with Airfix for an exclusive re-run of the Hawker Fury that was on the catalogue years back and the Inpact kits are readily obtainable....

Indeed, they are: http://www.modelzone.co.uk/modelzone-exclusive-airfix-1-72-hawker-fury-kit.html#.UBPNqwugzJs.facebook

One of my favourite aircraft and I'm very much looking forward to the kit.

@General, great choice of aircraft. I'm pretty sure I have some PDF books about this AC lying around somewhere if they would be of any use to you?

Thanks chaps....Walrus old fruit I was going to seek top flight psychiatric help but then found out that nursey had been upping my dosage on the sly without telling me or the requisite medical advice !!...she has, of course been roundly thrashed within an inch of her life, a punishment that she found oddly satisfying... :bouncy: .......she'll have to go at some point of course...

As for this 'jerry can' well if you pm me your addy then I'll post you the painting guide for the Legions Condor scheme if it helps..

Peebs, ta ever so, ......don't know how much damage has been caused but I even picked up a Roden Brisfit mkIV at the Waddo show.....madness !

Rob...I'd appreciate anything on the old kite thank you......I feel I'm going to need a bigger workbench !!!

Melchie....

One of my favourites too, well done getting the kit for a fiver! I've been looking for one for ages and never seen one under £20!

I am, however, lucky enough to have the 1/32 version, even if it isn't the floaty one :)

Hi Melch,

Had a look through all my books (and asked a few friends too) and couldn't find anything. The only thing I Have is a book about making a paper cut out model... Sorry bud

Thanks all,

Jen, yep the Silver Wings jobbie does look nice and ripe for super detailing....re the price of this one, it's funny but if it was a model that I really wanted at the time I probably wouldn't get it at anything like a bargain price but because I wasn't that bothered and offered a fiver for a laugh he accepted !!.......weird......

Rob no problem mate thanks for looking,

Well managed to stuff a load more gubbins in the pit...(so much for a quick oob build :slaphead: !!!), The kit includes a separate entry hatch which is rather neat so the extra detail wont go to waste this time round.
Also realised that the pedals were in the wrong place, (as ordered by the destructions)...Von Trippenhoff would have needed 6 foot long legs !!, so duly moved back to a more comfortable position...

Oddly the prominent cooler intakes at the front of the lower cowl weren't cut out, just small oval marks, so it was out with the micro drill....same for the rigging holes which thankfully are all marked......got my knicker elastic ready.(just hope Lady M doesn't need to stand up !! :frantic: !!

The wings are nicely done and after looking closely at a few period photos I decided to offset the ailerons , (in case you were wondering why the stick wasn't centred), ...you know what ...I can feel a bit of a diorama coming on...oh Lord, more work!!!

Very nice.

Glad to see that the position of the stick corresponds to the ailerons - it may seem obvious, but it's surprising how many models I've seen over the years with displaced surfaces and dead centre controls ...
