Looks nice for sure but can anyone tell me the difference between them

Are they different versions of the same plane like Mk.1, Mk.Vb Mk.IX Spitfires ?

Yes, although with the Zero there's no huge differences between the airframes. The main difference between the A6M2 and A6M5 is in the engine, the cowlings have different profiles and intakes, and, the armament.

Damn, underwear change required! :)

And they'd better scale it up to 1/48th :adolf:

I'm with Les - why don't they do something different?

Because they make models for Japan. Think of a ZERO as a Jap spitfire. Airfix and revell have loads of Spits Mks for us

Am I allowed to say the same thing about Airfix?

I've always been a minority ...

I think all Jelly is trying to say Harriet is that it's a licence to print money in their largest market.

Of course you can say what you like, even if it's misguided :wooo:

If there is a market, then a company will go into it if they think they'll get a return. Revell making a spit makes no money for Airfix, so they do their own and we are inundated with Spits (now that's snooze worthy :wicked: ). Same reason there are are a gazillion F-16's.

In fairness to Tamiya, the market isn't exactly flooded with early Zero's in 1/72. Especially not decent ones!

Except that we're not exactly drowning in decent accurate Mk VIIs, VIIIs and IXs (stand fast ICM) or XIVs/XIXs in 1:48!

Sorry, perhaps I should have made it clearer.

I didn't mean to imply we are inundated with spits. I'm just saying that should Revell do a spit mark that sells well, then Airfix may follow to have a piece of the pie!

Actually I would like a decent MkXIX in 1/48th, but I'd rather have a Tamiya 1/48th A6M2 to the same standard as their M3 and M5 :D .

Jen is spot on. The Airfix A6M2 is a really good £6 kit, with the Fine Molds all but impossible to get, so a nice new Tamiya one is most welcome. This will give people a realistic choice of two. High end for Tamiya at undoubtedly £20, or nice and reasonably priced for the Airfix offering.

Its a business, not a service to modellers who think they've seen it all before.

Must admit that a Zero does not spin my props, but for some reason Japanese aircraft hold a fascination with many a modeller.
Tamiya are far from stupid, they are very selective at what they produce and when the do something, they do it well.
