Here's my latest project finished...

Tamiya's 1/48 P-51D finished as Mustang Mk.IV KH655 and with everything thrown at it!

Additions are...

Aires cockpit
Aires gun bay
Eduard RAF seatbelts
Eduard etched detail set
Quickboost shrouded exhausts
Quickboost landing gear doors (although the inner doors didn't fit so I used those that came with the kit)
Quickboost tailwheel bay
Quickboost flaps
Squadron Dallas canopy
True Details Main Wheels
Ultracast Aeroproducts propeller
Ultracast machine gun ports
Vector main wheel bay
Scratch built gills on the lower cowlings

Finished using Model Master enamel paints (this was my first time using Model Master paints and despite being matt, I was surprised at how nicely they settled), Humbrol enamel for the yellow, Mr Metal Color for the drop tanks, Aeromaster Decals and Xtracrylix Flat Varnish.

If I were to buy & build again, I wouldn't bother with the tail wheel bay, which is all but invisible, the landing gear doors, particularly if the inner doors are modelling closed as they don't fit, or the flaps which aren't that much better than the kit supplied items, maybe a little better definition but not worth the expense!

Thanks for looking and as usual, all criticisms and corrections are more than welcome!

PS
Doesn't the Mustang look so much better in an RAF Scheme :sofa:

Thanks both, I did check the Hannants website but could only find Field Kitchens, no sinks :D

What a beauty, and one hell of a lot of am stuff :hypnotised:

The only thing is, I'm of the opposite opinion. I prefer it in American markings, can't explain why, just do.

Nice Stang. The effort on the details has really paid off.

I am with Rich, even though it was ordered by the RAF it is a rare sight to me in UK colours, so maybe that is why it looks strange to me.

Having said that, it is nice to see a different colour scheme!

cheers

Very nice model

Mind you, have to say I'm in the US (particularly Mighty Eighth) camp when it comes to Mustangs, but I do intend to do a Bentwaters-based Mk IV one day ... :D

I've just started Tamiya's 1/48 Mosquito FB Mk.IV and that's got just as much 'stuff'!

Both engines, cockpit, flaps/ailerons, radiators, gun bays and bomb bay, doors, undercarriage legs...

As for the markings, I decided to limit my modelling to just subjects operated under British markings which might seem limiting but with some creative thinking, I can still model WW2 subjects operated under Lend/Lease and Enemy Aircraft Flight so American, German, Italian and Japanese subjects can still be built. Although not being a Whifer does create a few issues with Post War subjects!

I've nothing against US or any other nation's markings but they just don't float my boat for so many reasons (most of which are totally irrational :wicked:) and even more irrationally, the older I get :codger: , the more angry I get at the lack of aftermarket releases intended for with RAF/FAA/RN subjects :frantic:

Yes I know, I'm :mental:

:D

Hey it's your model Tony (and a very lovely one too).

Just don't **** the Mossie up, my all time favourite a/c. :boxing:

Looking at the Mustang though, I guess there isn't much chance of a cock up
