Greetings all, as this is my inaugural WIP, better make it a good one eh.

I shall be constructing (badly) the rather diminutive Special Hobby Re-2000. What you get in the box is a fist full of resin, some rather well moulded plastic parts with recessed panel lines throughout, mahoosive sprue gates and the promise of relatively poor fit throughout...oh and thrown in some tiny photo etch and two vac form canopies as we all know I am going to bugger one up in the construction phase.

Well bearing all that in mind, lets get started eh.

Good lord those photos look washed out, shall try and improve the next batch.

A small update, the construction of the engine is now complete. Sadly Special Hobby missed off the rather prominent push rods that were on the real thing. Since these are highly visible on the real aircraft I decided to try my hand at replicating them.

Hopefully under a lick of paint it shall look a tad better.

Just a small update, engine is now all painted up, must say I am happy with how it has come out. Hopefully get some more done to the cockpit this afternoon/weekend.

Cheers for watching.

Spent some time working on the cockpit, pilot was pulled from my spares box. I intend to depict the aircraft in flight, so plane needed a pilot eh. The level of detail with the resin really is impressive, slightly soft mouldings in areas that needed some rectifying, and the Special Hobby resin is brittle as hell. Some care has to be taken when removing it from its casting blocks.

Work has progressed on the cockpit. It is now fully constructed (minus gunsight) and painted, however in all the enjoyment I forgot to take pictures of the internals which is a bit of a shame as I had added some fuse wire, and what not to make it look that extra busy.

You can just make out some of the internals in these pics. I plane on displaying the model with the canopy open, so you will still be able to see a great deal of the internals. Well worth the effort in my books.

So let me get this straight....a 5 cent coin has a 6" diameter...right?

If not, that paintwork is fantastic! :omg:

Time for an update methinks. Well then in all the excitement of glueing I forgot to take some photos before primer and Pre shade. So I shall simply have to tell you about the fit and the filler....Overall fit was better than expected for such a short run kit. Wings to fuse, and both fuse halves fitted rather well, with only a smidgen of filler needed in places, the really poor point was the gear doors. They were simple too large, too long and the wrong shape....quite crap really, but never mind. Another area that needed more filler than expected was the top cowling air scope, Fit of this resin part was less than steller. Anyway, with elbow grease, some ultra fine milliput and good ol sanding sticks it has all come out alright.

I was forced to re-scribe some areas due to sanding, I forgot to mention while the wings fitted well to the fuse halve there was a hell of a step that required sanding to profile.

After all the sanding and filler it was time for old faithful Alclad grey micro primer. Then time for my pre-shade. Not my best by far, in fact its damn messy, but I should add this is my first 1/72 model with an airbrush, I'm something of a newbie with this airbrush lark, finally laying my paintbrushes to rest.

Right enough waffle. Picture time..

Oh and before I forgot the canopy fit was awful, utterly crap. You NEED to use filler to get a smooth profile that is on the real thing, never mind though as hopefully it will look good when done. I have cut the canopy, so that I can position the sliding hood open, so that the pilot and cockpit will be visible.

Still even with the minor fit issues, still a good kit, and the best game in town for a 1/72 Re-2000.

As regular as clockwork its time for another update. Spent some time working on the underside today, the camera has not quite picked out the various different shading. As you can see there is the pre shade poking through, I also tried some post shading with a highlighted base coat to add some further depth. Looks ok to my eyes, will see what its like after a coat of gloss, washes ect.

As usual any hints, tips or comments are always most welcome. In fact Hints and tips are highly appreciated.

Cheers.

Your preshading is working, maybe a little stark; but after you add decals, a wash and weathering to blend it all together it should fade more in to the background.

Cheers Mike. I was thinking the Pre-shade was looking a tad prominent, shall see how things pan out. Been having some problems this eve with painting, Using Tamiya acrylics I fully mixed the paint, sprayed it on the top side, now its sitting there with a slight sheen, and ever so tacky to the touch. I'm thinking due to the temp and humidity in the air this coat is going to need a few days longer to cure than the underside. But I'm not quite sure. Any suggestions. Last time this happened it was tacky for bloody ages and resulted in a strip down and re-spray.

Looks like I have found the answer to my own question. Just going to need a longer cure time.
