One of the best civilian teams.

Remember them?

I saw them at the Greenham Common Air Tattoo one year - it might have been 1979, the year all the C-130s turned up. Rothmans had cigarette kiosks all over the place to maximise the publicity and I smoked so much I couldn't speak for a week.

Great days!

That photo could be me - I didn't have the attractive bald head in 1979!

Too many SIGs for my own good

Many years ago when I was a staff cadet at 5 AEF, the team dropped in to Cambridge to refuel, so my colleagues and I were able to get "up close and personal" to the aircraft. I knew they were small aircraft, but they managed to make the Chipmunk look large.

I changed my brand to Rothmans too, and even once built the L&S (iirc) 1:72 example in the team colours. I had this idea of saving an empty packet to make a display base - yes, in 1:72 it would have been a suitable size - but somehow never did.

My dad was lucky enough to meet the team back in the 80s at a press day at Exeter and when they asked for volunteers to fly with them he did. He flew in G-BECM with the late John McClean and did the full aerobatic program

....and no, he wasn't sick
