When Airfix announced the Gnat re-tool I was pleased but quite surprised. I wouldn't have thought it was high on the list of priorities of 'stuff to do'. I thought I'd be able to easily bag one or two of them at Yeovilton, but the cupboard was bare and even after being informed that Mr Models had a pile of them I found that the pile had been reduced to nought when I got there. OK I thought, buy online, except 'out of stock' appears to be the mantra. How wrong can you be in thinking that interest in a given subject is going to be meagre! :slaphead:

The Airfix management must be all smiles of late. Everything they release seems to go straight in at number one on the Hannants list!
(usually followed closely by the Xtradecal sheet that inevitably follows....)

My LMS got 20 in and they went within 4 days.

Airfix have told them the next batch will arrive in late March!

Making a beeline for Mr Models at Huddersfield on Sunday.

As someone who buys mostly at shows I have found that my fellow club members are the best way of finding what you want. At Yeovilton, I decided that I would like a Gnat, having checked out one of our members purchases that very morning, alas I was too late :( so had to make do with one Swordfish ;) ... Fast forward to lunchtime and I was told under no uncertain terms to go and see Andy on the Antics stand as he had one for me  So, I wasted no time ... I love North Somerset Modellers

I managed to bag one of these at Yeovilton (thank you Mr Models), and very pleased I am too.

The lack of decal options is a clear sign to decal manufacturers, which is something to look forward to, as it will allow me to tart up the Matchbox Gnat that I have in the stash as well.

I have about ten of them at home. I might be tempted to part with one.

Oh sorry, I thought you were talking about a real trainer like the Piston Provost!

Build a couple, save one for a rainy day. ;)

This is the purpose of an extensive stash. My loft looks like a shop, I can go up and select anything I fancy any time. :muahaha:

Am guilty of having several kits of the same type/different marques etc but not all bought over a period of time.

You obviously haven't discovered the arcane world of aeroplane heraldry. If you do, the logic of buying in multiples becomes apparent. Take, for example, the Gnat. There is the very nice kit option with dayglo panels against the silver paint, then there's Yellowjacks, Red Arrows and the various Flying School options. The biggest problem is finding time to do more than one or two.

The Modellers' Paradox

A kit of Type A leads to thoughts of making the variantions of marks and markings
If one buys one kit at a time you may bet your final scheckel that the production run ends before the second kit can be purchased and they may only be had for silly money on ebay, if at all.

But if one buys several for the projected variations to prevent kit shortage they will remain in the stash to be covered by a repeat of the procedure with piles of kits of types B,C,D through to Z

or else sold on ebay
