And some people complained that Airfix's 2012 programme lacked imagination?!? That is one of Revell's dullest schedules for many years in my opinion. But someone will be cock-a-hoop about it somewhere, so I guess it all evens out! The Uhu will be interesting as one of my favourite WWII types, and the B-17F will be welcome for many. Love to know about the Harrier GR.7 and the MPM link, I think that must be a typo and it'll be the Hasegawa kit again as it was before.
But overall? An enthusiastic "meh, whatever" from me!

The Harrier will be a Hasegawa re-box.

If all the doom and gloom economic predictions come true it is hardly surprising that both Airfix and Revell are playing safe. It's not like most of us don't have stashes to address, at least that's my own POV, although I may well be seduced by a big UHU.

According to these pages the Harrier is Hasegawa tooling.

Odd decision to reissue the Hasegawa GR7 when the Airfix kit has both wiped the floor with it and also mopped up most of the customers who'd want one...

Having seen the airfix new kit I'm not too sure if I buy this Revell kit. Specialy as this one is nearly 20 euro with less offerings than new Airfix kits in the shop.

Ditto with regards to the ex-Matchbox Canberra PR9....though of course it could be due to Revell's demographic customer base being different to that of Airfix's.

If there's a market for GR7's, PR9's, whatever, you don't make any money with nothing to sell. How many purchasers will know, or care, that the PR9 is an old Matchbox kit and that their blue box carries an inferior Hasegawa GR7? Airfix may well have mopped up customers in the market for a Harrier from the 10-15% of modellers that frequent forums like this, but that still leaves 85-90% who might buy a Revell kit. Re-releasing the old Matchbox PR9 makes sense for Revell, they have the tooling, once the kits are dispatched it's retailers who have to worry about sales. I'm also heartened that the deal with Hasegawa is still on, it raises the prospect of other expensive Hasegawa kits turning up cheaper in blue boxes.

I'd expect Hasegawa's non-home sales have collapsed so putting them in other people's boxes has got to be attractive to them. From Revell's point of view I still don't know why they think they can sell an inferior Harrier kit when they couldn't sell a dramatically superior Hunter...

I would guess the decision is based on previous sales of Harrier kits (Italeri and Hasegawa flavoured) in Revell boxes. One of life's mysteries, based on unscientific research, is that Hunter kits don't appear to sell in quantity. Check out Hannant's catalogue, there's three injection moulded Hunters currently available as opposed to nearly thirty Harriers. Only one of the Hunters is from Revell, despite them having decent kits in three scales in their tooling catalogue.

There might well be three Hunters Paul....but the whole world and his dog knows that the biggest seller would be in 1/48th and the Academy/Italeri kit isn't a reasonably SFTB build in terms of accuracy.

It will be good to see the 1/48 Wessex back on the shelves, given the daft ebay prices. I find the reissue of the Wessex more exciting than a new tool Lynx, for purely nostalgic reasons.

The ex-Matchbox Stranraer is a gem, but you have to be pretty good at rigging.

The Harrier GR7 is, like most Hasegawa kits, mostly devoid of stores, but features some very fine recessed panel lines, just like they should be. It's most annoying features are (arguably) a seam down the middle of the canopy, and a tendency for the main wheels to not reach the ground.

I really can't see a market for the Canberra PR9 in the UK! Since Xtrakit and Airfix did their bit, the old Matchbox kit has turned up at shows for as little as £2-3, and for a very good reason. That said, I've built one and it was fun, but I spent all the money I saved on aftermarket decals. At least Revell are likely to include excellent decals.

Otherwise, well done Revell for coming up with such an impressive release schedule in these times of economic uncertainty.

What with all this talk of Hunters, Harriers and Canberras has this one slipped under the radar...

04666 Heinkel He219 A-7 "Uhu" 32 07/2012 New

A 1/32 He219, is that correct?

I'm an RAF modeller but I might be tempted to buy this kit and finish as AM20 during its time at Farnborough 1945.
