Missed me? Not been up to much plastic tickling at all, and what little time I do have has been taken up by the rather boyish hobby of 1/6th scale soldiers... You know, Action Man and all that. Anyway, thought I'd post up some pics of the Action Man that I put most effort into, which was a WW1 Tommy, and included the scratchbuilding of the 1908 webbing. It did involve glueing and painting, so there was some modelling involved! From the beginning.. Buy an Action Man. ![]() Clean him up, and buy some clothes, which are the nearest match to the British uniform at the time. Buy a 1/6th SMLE, some boots and puttees (also, the closest match). ![]() Replace the buttons and give him a helmet (fnaar fnaar).. ![]() Start the webbing.. The material (white cotton tape of various widths) was supplied by a phenomenal model maker called Tony Barton, and the brass buckles by Ritchie Elbourne. ![]() All of this is put together from single widths of tape, glued together, painted, pin tacked and buckled up.. ![]() The finished result.. Oh, and the cap was home made from cotton cloth, and the small pack and haversack from material from an old pair of trousers. The regiment badge was one of Tony's pewter casts. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Was never too keen on the replacement hands I gave him, so bought some bendy hands from Soldier Story. Much better. ![]() I really enjoyed this project (which took over two years including a year and a half hiatus of him sitting in a box), and he looks champion standing on my desk in front of me. Cheers, Nick Edited by dylan the rabbit, Nov 22 2011, 03:29 PM.

Cool! Hope that isn't the third light for his fag, but then as the song says he can ask Lucifer* to light it! *Old Nick ![]() |
