1/72 Sea Vixen Seats; Any recommendations?

Evening guys,

I'm in need of a set of seats for a Sea Vixen in 1/72. Having done a quick search, I found the FAA set that does them, though they look a bit ropey, and Neomega do a pair, which look better, though I'm not sure they're quite right for the Vixen.

Anyone care to suggest any other options?

Cheers

Shaun :)

Scratch build them :P

Not sure if Pavla do one.
I know Pavla do a MK4 M-B seat for the Strikemaster but not knowledgeable on the differences (if any) with the Sea Vixen seat.

It's an MB Mk 4-DSA. I don't think anybody does a dedicated seat, although there are plenty of Mk 4's, maybe they could be modified? The 4-DSA has CO2 bottles and inflatable flotation bags.

If that's the Dragon kit you've got can you post up some sprue shots? How much did you get fleeced pay for it?!

The neomega ones are a best bet mate, they are correct in being mk-4's but there's differences is in the headbox for the navigator seat, and the underwater ejection capability of them . The differences externally are almost non existant, they had internal floatation systems allowing them to eject underwater which were packed away inside the seat and the headbox. In 1/72 it would be very hard to tell the difference between a Mk-4 and a Mk-4SD, especially once inside the cockpit.

It certainly is the Dragon kit, and I paid nada.... ;)

l'd post some sprue shots had I not started cutting parts from it. Early impressions are good, lovely detail and fit. Nose is a bit off, and it looks a little pregnant, but that doesn't bother me. Seats are curiously way undersized, hence my question- hopefully replacements will fit as it's a bit of a squeeze in the office. Regardless, by far and away the best offering, though if recent prices on Dragon Meteors are anything to go by, I'd gamble on waiting a bit as the price is a little steep.

LOL, maybe they copied the Xtrakit seats!

I used a couple of Aeroclub seats on a FROG/ Revell Vixen I did some years ago:

Very much a 'jack up canopy, replace airframe' job. You can't see much of the Navigator's seat, even with the hatch open, anyway. ON the seats I have for the Airfix 1/48 kit, the navigator's seat appears to have breaking prongs to punch a hole in the hatch, if need be.

Seriously? On what basis, with sooo much wrong with it shape-wise?

Perhaps I should have stated in my opinion....

Looking at the other 1/72 options, the Frog/Revell kit is ancient and pants, and you proved how spectacularly awful the Xtrakit/MPM kits are. From a build perspective alone, this kit, from what I've done so far, has been nothing but pleasurable. I fully appreciate there are shape inaccuracies, but the kit isn't really any worse in that respect than those already available, but does come with the added bonus of superb surface detail and actually fits together without the need for shed loads of putty and elbow grease! There are some curiosities, which from looking at your website you're already well aware of, and I can understand your frustration, but as a kit, and the modelling experience it provides, for those of us who don't know any better it's it's really very nice.

That said, the price is too much, but that isn't an issue exclusive to this kit, nor Dragon kits in general....

Best not say too much more, wouldn't want to spoil the review ;)

Well if you'd said "Regardless, by far and away the best fitting knock-off of the poorly shaped Xtrakit" in the first place... ;)
