Cool Paul, but there is something I was wondering about. Is it hovering within or outside of ground effect? Ground effect is meaningful within about 1 1/2 rotor diameters. It is the result of at least two phenomena; the "cushion" of air under the rotor, and the decrease in rotor tip vortices. I don't know if this means the diameter of one of the multiple rotors or the sum of all of them, or perhaps something between the two. Any pilots out there who could enlighten me?

edited for spelling.

I'm sure somebody can work out the physics, but it's not me!

I rather suspect that it isn't ground effect as the structure of the machine is very open

Ryan Air have gone far too far with their cut-backs in my opinion.
