New boxing, ancient kit; Revell's 'new' 1/72 P-51D

Going out for a drive with the missus, I decided to try a model shop I've not been to before. As so many shops do, when R/C or trains are their main business, they were mostly stocked with Revell (those Revell salemen are good!). Saw there a kit I've not seen before, and it was just £4.80, a Revell 1/72 P-51D. As I was on the hunt for a 1/72 P-51D (I bought a new decal sheet, and was looking for a suitable base), I thought it perfect - I get the kit, it's not expensive, and I make a purchase in a new shop.

Frankly, it was awful. It's actually the ancient 1960's moulding - raised lines, mad rivets, and flash, just in a new box. It really annoys when companies do it. I'm sort of used to Airfix doing it, but, oh deary me, it does annoy me still. Ebay, present, or try and build it...?

Build it, I'd try and replicate the completely fictional* original box art:

It is annoying when they re-box kits like this, there ought to be some sort of disclaimer on the packaging.

*There was a P-51 named 'Millie P' bot not in bright red!

I like Revell a lot for the good things they are doing.
But having been likewise suckered a while back with the Tempest kit am more wary of boxings.
Some of the Matchbox repops are welcome imho but this ought not be happening.

On larger boxes they at least provide a handy description, but the lower series can be a lottery on occassion.

As a well known published modeller once said to me:life's too short (in answer as to why he doesn't often build lesser kits). I stuck it on ebay for 99p, if I can get back a few Quid, that's cool! I know I could build it, but it would niggle, so, better to cut my losses, rather than adding to the stash. Rather spend/waste my time on better kits (this from a man who's building an old Esci F-18 Hornet, and a Frog DH.Hornet)
