Afternoon all,

Here's my thread for this years RIAT which I'll be steadily updating with shots of the four days I'll be there. First up is Thursdays arrivals. This was the first time I had done an arrivals day; a very enjoyable experience, with plenty of interesting aircraft arriving throughout the day as well as a number of rehearsals to keep me occupied. The good weather certainly helped too! The BAE Typhoon looks good tooled up, though it's clear to see the effect such a loadout has on it's turning performance. It turned out to be a bit of a Viper fest with the Belgians, Dutch and the Turks (twice!) rehearsing their displays. Very impressed with the Turks, the take off is uber cool B)

On with the pics, there's a fair few here, but it's hard to whittle them down with so many movement- hopefully gives a flavour of the day. I was feeling a little adventurous with shutter speeds, dropping it down to 1/100 for the display team landings, and later some of the fast jets too, though I played it safe with the really good stuff :D More as ever can be found on my Flickr

Ooooohhhhh looks like some awesome stuff coming in!! If you can get a good walkaround of the Mirage 2000N I would be forever in your debt man! If nothing else, I will buy a few pints in October when i visit. :)

I assume 'Ding dang doo' is good? :)

Mike, there's walkaround for the Mirage here which should cover you. I won't be able to get as close to the jet as that, and may only be able to shoot it from the front depending on where it's parked, but if there's anything you want a shot of missing from the link then I'll see what I can do ;)

While I'm here, is a sly bonus pic, just for Phreak B)

Jolly good ;)

Onto Saturday. We left a bit earlier after today's show so had a chance to edit some shots. I thoroughly enjoyed the day once the weather had cleared, so excellent flying in great conditions for photography for the most part. Was a shame not to see the Italian Tornado and C-27, but it can;t be helped, and hopefully I'll catch them tomorrow. You might be able to guess from the pics I've developed a bit of a thing for the Rafale- another stunning performance from it today, really is the best jet about in my opinion. Shame the A-10 went tech mid way through as well, looking forward to seeing it display fully tomorrow.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

More outstanding images from Shaun, and yes the Frecce constantly need to prove that their balls are biggest.

Thanks for the additional comments guys, much appreciated

Right then, a day late as I had little time after Sunday's show to edit any shots due to having to rise early for departures, but here's a selection of shots from the second day of flying. A much more full flying program, with only a couple of weather casualties, gave the chance to see a few of the acts cancelled from Saturday. I'd seen the Solo Turk practice on Thursday from P&V East, but it was nice to watch the display up close. A thoroughly enjoyable routine indeed, hard to choose between that and the yet again fantastic Belgian display. C-27 was fantastic, and nice to see a solo tornado, one of those things you don't think you'll miss until it's gone, a bit like the AAC Lynx at Yeovilton last week. Saudi Hawks were nice to see, though I must admit I was a little underwhelmed by the display, probably could do with a few more jets. Overall though, a quality second day of flying.

Here's some more images then- I used the morning and lunchtime periods to browse the static park and try some more arty shots, so this set is a little more varied.

Wonderful thread and of course photo's Shaun. I decided to give RIAT a miss this year but I did do departures yesterday from P&V West. Saw the SU-27 leave with the Il-76 - Wowza!

Thanks very much lads B)

Gary, the Flanker roll was a bit tasty wasn't it? Bit of a debate going on UKAR as to the rights and wrongs of it, but it looked impressive from my end, with plenty of height I reckon. The Candid made a bit of a mess of things from the pics I've seen

Here we are then, my final update for this years show from yesterdays departures. Another great experience down at P&V East, the afterburners seemed extra loud this year! Not Mark Bowman will be a particularly popular chap mind, after he opened the throttles of his Typhoon a touch as he headed to the threshold, resulting in many a photographer diving down to stop their equipment getting blasted! All in all, a great day all round to finish off a superb weekend.

Here's a selection of shots from the Eastern end then- light wasn't especially good for much of the day, making it a bit tricky at times, but I think I've come away with a few keepers :D

Hmmm yes that Il-76 Pilot had a few hours to think up a good excuse on the way home. I heard that the SU-27 pilot didn't speak any English and that the Il-76 crew were doing all the radio chatter on both a/c behalfs.

Respect to him for giving us what we wanted!

More splendiferous images Shaun. I love the moody monochrome image at the top, which aircraft? I can't keep up with all this modern stuff. :codger:

What's the story on the Su-27/Il-76 then?

Indeed, A Rafale it is- prettiest modern jet about in my opinion, unless the Mirage F.1 is perceived as modern. Dassault certainly know how to build good looking jets B)

The Ukrainians have certainly sparked debate over on UKAR. The Il-76 departed first and raised the undercarriage too early, causing two tyres to burst. The Flanker followed it out, performing a roll as it went, which is against the rules. Personally, it was great to see such a sporty departure, with no issues with height from where I was standing, which youtube videos seem to suggest as well. It's all a bit of mountains out of molehill stuff I reckon, you can make your own judgement

Thanks for the kind comments as well, much appreciated

You've obviously been practising this photography lark for a while :wooo: It's rather good! I'm envious, can't you tell?

I do like the Apache shots - what a scheme - so different from when I first saw them in 1982! Sure I have some snaps somewhere ...

Would you mind if I nicked a couple to drool over?

As for the rest of the aeroplanes, still haven't got a clue! :hypnotised: still like the pics though!!!
