Evening guys,

Thought I'd bring to your attention the airshow to be held at Yeovilton in a couple of weeks as it's looking like it could be the show of the season B) There's some serious fast jet action this year, in amongst all the traditional naval stuff, including:

Polish MiG-29
2x Aeronavale Rafale M
2x Aeronavale Super Etendard
Belgian F-16
Dutch Apache
2x RAF Tornado GR.4
Vulcan
Sea Vixen

A full list and additional info can be found on the official website

http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/operations-and-support/establishments/naval-bases-and-air-stations/rnas-yeovilton/rnas-yeovilton-air-day-2009/

All subject to the usual caveats of course, but that's a pretty awesome line up. Well worth £20+ if you ask me. I'll be there on the Friday for arrivals (I assume Grant will be too ;)) and on base for the main event on the Saturday. I believe one of our resident misfits traders will be there too :P

If anyone's been umming and ahhing over it, or not heard about it till now, I'd strongly recommend paying a visit, it's going to be a cracker!

Cheers

Shaun :)

I came to the same conclusion a while back. I couldn't be bothered with RIAT this year, and motivation was low even for Kemble.

Yeovilton looks like a cracker, just hoping the Sea Vixen makes it's scheduled appearance, it's one I've so far failed to see,

Cheers,
Bill.

I really don't get the airshow schedulers at Yeovilton - if Its location isnt far enough out of the way anyway, they decide to plonk it the week before RIAT and the week after Waddington and is it the same weekend as Legends at Duxford? Then nothing in August.....

Yeovilton is a great airshow, have done it 3 times since 2002 but it was better in September where it possible to have enough money to do them all :hypnotised:

Super line up though!

Bill, no reason why the Sea Vixen won't be displaying, seems perfectly serviceable at the moment, and Yeovilton is one of only three events she's down for so far. Was lucky enough to see her display twice last Thursday, I can assure you you'll be in for a treat. There may be a little surprise in store involving her as well......

Gary, I think the timing is actually ideal- it's bang in the middle of the season in the busiest month, but doesn't share a date with any other major military shows, so has a free reign on more exotic foreign participation, which is evident from this year's list. It can also acquire extra participants that may be due at either Waddo or RIAT with the dates so close; certainly Culdrose used to benefit when it was the Wednesday before RIAT. The September date was only for a few events, but I'm not so sure the show befitted from that too much. As for location, some of us would disagree ;)

Paul, there is no contest- do both! :D I shall be at VL on the Friday for arrivals and Saturday for the show, with my weekend rounded off with a trip to Legends on the Sunday. I appreciate I'm fortunate to live local enough to Yeovilton to be able to do that, but both shows are must sees this year, so it has to be done B)
