I have spent the afternoon applying the Winter Camo and for my first atempt I am rather happy with the results. I have used the hairpsray technique to apply the camo. Here is what I did.

I took a cheap can of Hairspray and coated the lower hull. I did the hull first then i went onto the turret. From what i gather the lighter the coat the less paint will come off. The can I used was that cheap the hairspray gushed out an i ended up with a rather heavy coat. as you can see in the picture the hairspray leaves a gloss appearance.

Next I mixed Tamiya flat white with 60% thinners and applied it in a random fashion all over the Tiger's Hull. I aimed to get a patchy look to it

I left the paint to dry for about 20mins. Then I took a flat brush and a glass of warm water. The brush was dipped in the water and then I began to gently rub the paintwork. It doesn't take much effort before the paint starts to wear away. Obviuosly the more you rub the more the paint comes off. Again I wanted a really patchy appearance where there would be heavy wear next to ligh wear.

It didn#t take that long to do and is easier to do than I thought though it will take several attempts to get this technique mastered. Here is what I ended up with:

I haven't been able to do much over the last 10 days or so due to health issues. Here is a run down on what i have been doing.

As I have alrewady applied the winter camo and using the hairspray method applied alot of chipping etc, the main focus of my weathering will be to tone down the bright white winter camo. I will do this by using lots of filters and washes and I mean lots.

First I applied a filter using SIN industries brown for dark green filter. The filter is very subtle and takes lots of light coats to build up the effect.

Here are the before and after pictures. In the 2nd picture only one coat of filter has been applied. This shows how subtle theses filters are.

Next it was a case of adding more filters and washes. Here is a list of the products I used:

Mig productions Dark wash and Brown wash

AK Interactive winter streaking grime, Dark brown wash and streaking grime.

To use these as filters is quite simple:

1, leave the bottle to settle for 24hrs

2, open the bottle gently...DO NOT SHAKE the bottle

3, apply the product using a flat brush.

leaving the bottle to stand for 24hrs means the pigmnets settle in the bottle leaving a very weak liquid at the top which is ideal to use as a filter. The if you wish to use as a wash just shake the bottle.

I also applied some rust chipping in random places. This is how the lower hull is looking

I have finally managed to finish my Tiger and just have a base to build. The last job on the Tiger was to apply some dirt to the lower hull and tracks.

First I mixed a solution of matt varnish, PVA glue and water, roughly equal measures. I applied the solution to the areas on the lower hull where I wanted the dirt to be. Next I took some Flory models Dark dirt pigments and applied on to the solution until all of it was covered.
The beauty of this method is that you can then apply more solution and then a different shade of pigment and you can keep repeating until you are happy.

I haven't gone over the top with the mud on this model in fact its quite subtle. Afet applying the md to the tracks I then went over the raised areas with some Citadel boltgun metal. On the wheels I added some AK solution oil/fuel stain to the hubs and bolts.

I will probably add some mud splatters to the King Tiger before I set it on the base. This is how the King Tiger looks. If you think that I have missed something please let me know.
