I started this as part of the Mud Movers GB over on UAMF. I brought the kit years ago on a trip to Bovington. That in itself was really quite something as I have omitted to mention "I DON'T DO TANKS!!" This is my first serious attempt at a tank and TBH I have really enjoyed doing it to the point where I have even bought another. Here is a quick run through of the construction over the last six weeks. Typically for me the GB has finished and the tanks not actually finished - it is still bereft of decals and any kind of weathering, which I hope to address this week. Like I said, my first tank, so any criticism and tips for improvement gratefully received (although I'm not over concerned with accurasy of the subject itself, if it looks like a tank, is mostly green and has caterpiller tracks then that's good enough for me). ![]() How I envy the AFV builders of the future and their "Hovertanks" with no feckin' wheels... ![]() Look Jen, I've finally overcome my Airbrushophobia... ![]() ![]() Wheels finally done - I didn't notice until after this that the tracks were on back to front - Rookie mistake eh? ![]() Ready for some paint now ![]() and now jumping forward to how it looks this evening... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I used the Tamiya colours on the instruction but the lighter green looks a bit bright to me, so the weathering may have to be quite heavy. I'll post up the final product as soon as it is complete. Cheers Al. |

The Tamiya chieftain is a strange kit. It's partly a Mk.3, partly a Mk.5, and has the wrong version of the main gun tube for either. Nevertheless, it does build up into an attractive model, so long as you ignore the paint instructions! Here are a fww piccies of one I built a couple of years ago for a review in SMMI: ![]() ![]() ![]() I remember that the front idler axles were very weak. I replaced them with a length of brass rod. We could do with a modern-standard injection-moulded Chieftain in the scale! Cheers, Chris. |

I know what you mean Chris! I have no idea why they put to paint it in two shades of green! British Armour has always been either plain green, green and sand, plain sand or green and black. odd. I built one of these recently and was going for the berlin brigade paint job but gave up after a while with frustration so now its my practice tank and regually gets painted all sorts, I might build another one at some point though as the Chieftan was an awesome tank! looking good so far Al!
