Here's the latest on the smudgeworks bench AFV club's superb M5A1 Stuart late version. Really going together rather well with some super details. The only things I have changed are the end plates on the two lower rear vent housings as the kit parts just would not fit.

Nice, I've fancied doing one of the AFV Club's Stuart kits for some time now.

Will watch this with interest. :wicked:

Did you ever get that Trumpy Ariete finishes by the way?

Regards,

Steve

By the way Pete.

This version of Tank was an early M5 the later one was the strait hull type.

Being later version was from the M3 types, thus M5.

Right now my commissions are done I can progress with the Stuart again. A couple of hours work and I have now got the hull closed up, added the wheels and started to fit all the little bits and pieces. The rear stowage bin is quite fiddly but looks superb once in place. I intend to batter the bin lid and have it overflowing with tarps etc. The etched grills on the engine deck are nicely detailed and you have to add some insanely small bolts to finish them off! The figure is an alpine item with a warriors head. Should suit the finished vehicle well.

Cheers foxy they are a bit of a pain to fit though! Here's some more the main construction is now complete. I was going to fit the side skirts but the fit was bloody awful so in the end I decided to leave then off the model for sanity's sake. All that is left to do is add the machine guns which can be left off until the very end and continue adding lots of stowage.
As you can see I have started on the turret by adding a resin tarp and some spare panzer 3 track, looks more interesting than the kit grousers. I will be adding a mixture of spares box stowage and items made from magic sculpt. This will enable me to paint most of it off the model.

On the whole the kit is very nice but does have some annoying fit problems and I found the plastic to be quite soft.

I agree on the Plastic Pete, it is very easy to damage when removeing if your not carefull.

Comeing along nicely and I assume it will be in the Bocage country of France for this one.

I found I had to put some slivers of plastic at the front sloped end, but you seem to have overcome that with this later kit of the M5.

Cheers Foxy, yep a bocage version is the one I have gone for. Finally got some paint on to day, started off with a basic undercoat of tamiya XF62 olive drab then added drops of XF15 flat flesh and sprayed the centre of panels etc. Continued adding more flat flesh until I had a nice contrast between the base colour and the lighter tone. I find this is an excellent way to break up a single colour and starts the weathering off.

Pictures may be a bit off as I have just invested in some new lighting and I am currently fiddling with the camera set up

cheers chaps here is some more progress. I have started the weathering by adding some light chipping and also made a start on painting the stowage. After a blast of klear the decals went on yesterday and I managed to get some of the tarps finished.
