For this build I will be using Accurate Armour's Jackal 2 SRV resin kit. Before i get onto the kit here is a little information about the Jackal 2: The Jackal 2 is a high mobility weapons platform, with a unique air-bag suspension system allowing rapid movement across varying terrain. Used for reconnaissance, rapid assault, fire support and convoy protection. The Jackal 2 has the capacity to support itself and its crew over 800km. Designed by Supacat and built by BABCOCK, approx 110 Jackal 2 Vehicles have been bought by the MoD as part of the Protected Mobility Package. The Jackal 2 has undergone several upgrades from its predecessor, which although subtle, will give the driver and passengers more safety and an improved strategic advantage on the battlefield according to the engineers. Late in 2009 Jackal 2 will entered frontline service. It provided enhanced levels of crew protection, reliability, manoeuvrabiity and capacity. The Jackal 2 can carry increased payload and fuel compared to the Jackal 1, allowing it to carry greater amounts of additional equipment and protection over longer distances. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now for the kit. ![]() ![]() Inside the box there are three bags of resin pieces, pe, decals various lenses and plastic rods etc. ![]() The first task is to tidy up the two hull halves and join them together. There was little bits of resin that needed to be removed but nothing major. After dry fitting the two halves first i then glued them together using thick CA glue, with the glue being thick it gave me time to get the two parts lined up properly. Once i was happy i applied some CA kicker. The general fit of the two halves was very good though some gap filling will be needed. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next I applied the Mud flaps to both the front and rear wheel archers. The flaps are made from PE, here is the front wheel archers and mud flaps, before and after. ![]() ![]() Next i added the tow hook, this consisted of three parts, the mounting plate, the tow hook and the electrics ![]() ![]() In the next update I will tackle the suspension Edited by f4sooty, Mar 6 2011, 03:18 PM.

The suspension for the Jackal is made up of several pieces. First all the parts were removed from the casting blocks.![]() First the suspension back plate, bottom wishbone and driveshaft were glued together. ![]() Then I added the steering link and shock absorbers ![]() The final stage was to add the spring actuator and top wishbone. The suspension unit was now made up, a total of four were made. ![]() The suspension units were then added to the main body. Fit wasn't too bad though I struggled to get them all level. I will hopefully be able to rectify the problem when the wheels go one. The instructions have you making various sub assemblies which you add to the body a later stage. With this is mind the next step is to make up the rear seats. The seats are made up of two parts, the seat and a rear armour plate, again fit was very nice. ![]() ![]() The next stage is adding the Rifle holders to the inside of the front door armour. ![]() ![]() Now we move onto the front panel and to start I added detail to the outside. Clear resin lights, light guards, aerial mount, ECM wing boxs and a winch were added. ![]() ![]() The inside of the front panel then recieved some attention. I added a fire extenguisher, the foot pedals and steering coloumn. A small switch made of styreene strip was also added. ![]() ![]() As you have probably noticed the instructions have you jumping about to begin with, moving from one area to another. The next stage involved adding the wheel arch and footwell armour. ![]() Though fit was quite tricky I managed to get them in. ![]() The side vent was then added as well as some pe fittings to the underside. Copper wire was used to make grab handles( purple wire) ![]() ![]() |

I have managed to make some good progress ovr the last couple of days. I will go through a few of the things I have done. First I constructed the rear crew area swing doors. One of the doors has the spare wheeled mounted on it whilst the other has an ammo rack ![]() ![]() Next I made up the smoke grenade launchers or to give them the correct name Smoke pot mounts. These were added to some wing frame brackets before adding to the front panel. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next I worked on the rear compartement roll bar and armour. This was quite tricky to put together, though the fit was excellent the instruction photo wasn't that clear. After studying the real thing I managed to assemble it correctly. Should anyone decide to build one I have included a couple of pictures of the finished roll bar and armour panel taken from different angles. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I then spent time getting the side assemblies done which included the Bowman comms table, the GPMG machine gun and the .50cal machine gun. Here is a pic of the sub assemblies that need to be added to the main body. ![]() From now on I am adding parts straight to the body. I started by adding the air filter to the righthandside of the Jackal and to the other side the Air inlet assembly(2nd photo). At the same time I added the weapons ring and its framework ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for looking. |

The next task was to add the rear stowage racks and rear smoke grenade launchers. The racks were made of three resin parts and a section of PE. The PE had SUPACAT cut into it. Again as with the majority of parts, the fit was very good. You do get the option to have the racks in the lowered position though I chose mine to be stowed upright. I will be adding water cans to the racks at later stage. ![]() Nowto the driver and commanders area. Here is the before picture ![]() On the right as you look of the picture, the commanders area, I added an air vent mesh, a section of tubing onto which the Bowman radio control pad is fitted and some GPMG ammo boxes. Onto the drivers side, the gear stick, a radio control panel and fire extinguisher were added. ![]() Nex I added the front panel which slotted into place quite nicely. I used thick CA glue so as I had time to line it up properly. On the drivers side of the front panel I added the GPS mount, coloumn stalk and another fire extinguisher. Above the driver/commander compartement I added the wire cutter bar. ![]() ![]() Moving round to the sides I plan on leaving the cab doors open so as you can see the detail better. I test fitted the rear swing door which hold the spare wheel. I will add this permantley at the end of the build. The opposite side door has an ammo stowage area on it. ![]() ![]() The side steps were then added. ![]() The final structure to be added to the rear of the Jackal-2 is the ECM table and mount. I will be adding aerials to it at the end of the build. ![]() ![]() For now the constrcution is over. There is still alot to add like the lights, aerials, GPMG, .50cal, and the comms to name but a few. ![]() A coat of primer was then applied, I used Tamiya XF-19. ![]() |

The painting and decaling have been done. the painting was very straight forward, after the usual preshading I applied a couple of coats of Xtracrylix XA1813 Gulf armour Lt. stone BS361. I then added the detail paint before giving the whole thing a coat of Klear. The decals went on very well and I used Mr Mark Setter decal solution to help bed the decals down. The decals were then sealed in with another coat of Klear. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the next update I wil start the weathering |

Now on to the weathering. I will be keeping the weathering straight forward on this build and aim to have it look as though its out on patrol. First I applied an allover wash using Mig Productions Neutral Wash. This wash has a brown tinge to it and also acts as a filter. I then mixed Tamiya Buff with 80% thinners and apllied light coats to the lower half and to the tyres to give them a dusty appearance. Using 502 Abteilung Oil paint Abt130 Dark mud I applied some light streaking in random places. Next I applied a pin wash to pick out the details. I used Mig Productions Dark wash for this. This wash has a brown/black appearance. This is how the Jackal looked before the next stage of weathering, the pigments. ![]() Before I applied the pigments I did a little drybrushing. In the driver/passenger footwheels I used Citadel Boltgun metal to dry brush the floor. The rest of the model was dry brushed using Tamiya buff lightened with white. for the pigments I mixed three different Mig pigments together. They were Gulf sand, dry mud and european dust. The pigments were applied to most areas of the Jackal and fixed in place with Mig pigment fixer. The wheels still need to be done. I may apply more pigments once all the stowage and figures have been added. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next i will be sorting out the stowage and start adding the rest of the kit parts. Then I will start painting the figures. |

I have just finished my Jackal-2 !!!!!!!!!!!!! I have added some stowage from Accurate armour as well as the dedicated crew set. The crew set caused me to re think how i was going to display the Jackal. The problem was that in oredr to fit the driver to the Jackal part of the seat base had to be removed. Now here is my little rant, Accurate armour only tell you about the seat having to be adjusted in the figure set. Like most people i build the vehicle then move on to the figures therefore the seat is fully fixed in place. It would cause great damage to remove the seat so I was left with a driver figure that i couldn't use!!!! So be warned that if you are to build this kit leave the seats out till the end when you come to add the crew. instead I sat the driver figure on the crew compartement step and have placed a map in hiw hands. The commander figure that comes with the set is firing the GPMG in the front passenger seat. I have saved this figure for another vehicle and instead used another Accurate armour figure. This figure is stood up next to the Jackal. Here is the finished build, i will be posting better photos over the next couple of days. Thanks for following the build. ![]() |
