The 2 remaining Nimrod R.1's are due to be retired from service at R.A.F Waddington on 31st March 2011.
Whether they will do any commemorative flying I don't know.

Whilst awaiting the delivery of the 3 RC-135V/W Rivet Joints to the R.A.F, our ELINT ops will apparently be covered by the U.S RC-135's partly crewed with R.A.F personnel, and will operate out of Offut AFB, Nebraska and R.A.F Mildenhall. Our own RC-135's aren't due until 2014!

With the R.A.F's Sentinel fleet also due to be scrapped on it's return from Afghanistan, it most certainly is a dwindling fleet. :(

Depressing innit?! Our worldwide commitments are no less, yet our forces are being pared to the bone.

Loss of Nimrod, Sentinel and Shadow can only be a bad thing for our intel capabilities.

The ironic thing is that the Rivet Joints are nearly as old as the R.1s!

Same here, weve only just got them???

And we are also losing 1 of the 7 E-3 Sentry's which is being used as a hanger queen I hear.

Sad, all so so sad :(

So, now it seems that two Nimrod R.1's have been given a reprieve, and will now remain in service until at least the end of June 2011....

Lets hope they keep going long enough for a final farewell at the 2011 Waddington Airshow!
