Quick update.

Build hasn't stalled just life getting in the way as usual.

I've sprayed a couple more coats of Gloss Black and painted the Nav lights.

Before anyone shouts 'Schoolboy Error' I took the photos of the Nav lights with the jet upside down. Mind you it had me worried there for a second!

Doing a bit more work on the seats to make them look less Tonka too!

The net result is not a lot of visual progress.

Cheers,

Rob

ps. theres a thread in the Aircraft work in progress area of BM by a chap called Geedubellyer that's well worth a look. It's another Revell Hawk build and the level of detail he's adding is putting mine to shame!

I've seen that thread and yes the amount of detail that guy is doing is simply staggering... well worth a look. :omg:

However I wouldn't say that his build put's your build to shame in any way, shape or form.... just remember that while you might wish you could build to his level... some of us wish we could build to yours...

Right then, I was finally back on with this over the weekend (been a busy couple of weeks work wise, so little progress).

I've been doing more to the seats, but the Aires harnesses are considerably more complicated than the kind of etch I've experienced before (lots of fiddly bits with these) so I havent made much progress there either. I've modified the head boxes further and need to add the retainers for the shoulder straps (once I assemble the straps). Photos will follow once I'm happy with them!

Meanwhile, undercarriage time!

Having cleaned up the white metal Aeroclub undercarriage, I fitted the legs with the help of some MDC Thixo Superglue. The attachment pegs on the metal legs are smaller than the plastic ones, so some careful alignment is necessary and holding in place while the glue dries.

I've also removed the canopy parts from the sprue and started cleaning them up and removing the hinges (I'm doing mine with a closed lid).

Polished the canopy with Micromesh sheets to remove sanding marks then a quick dip in Klear and it has come out looking lovely! Not sure about the MDC decals yet, They'll have to wait until it's painted in any case.A set of Eduard masks arrived on Saturday and I've started masking up the cockpit divider.

I did a quick trial fit of the canopy and it appears that the windscreen is quite a tight fit around the coaming and the main canopy is a little narrow compared to the fuselage. Not a lot I can do about it, but it will be interesting to see the finished result.

I'll add some photos Tuesday night (honest) - good to see it standing on it's legs at last!

Cheers,

Rob

OK, so I haven't got a lot done of late. I put my knee out the weekend before last and spent a few days in bed.

I did manage to assemble one of the sets of straps for 1 seat, but it was a right pain in the bum and they don't look that good.

So I've gone for plan B and bought a set of the new Kuivaleinen pre-painted etch seatbelts. Hopefully these will look more convincing!

I've also sprayed up a bunch of the remaining parts (U/C doors, Airbrake, Strakes etc) so with a bit of luck I will be making some progress this week.

Cheers for your patience on this one,

Rob

Stone the crows, I've resurrected this one for Telford!

After a considerable lay-off, I've bitten the bullet and started decalling the beast!

Photos tomorrow, as they're covered in Micro Sol at the moment.

I'm doing the 30th Anniversary scheme with the Union Jack tail.

Mark, have you done any of those (XX159/XX219/XX261)

If so, which one so I don't duplicate?

Sorry to hear you won't be at Telford!

Well, here's what I was up to last night:

Had a minor disaster when I put the sheet down on a couple of drops of water on the table which then necessitated the early addition of 4 of the roundels and some of the stencilling!

I was worried by the size of some of the decals, but they fitted perfectly and went on absolutely beautifully (Thanks Xtradecal) and conformed well with Microsol and Microset.

Lots still to do, but this one should be done for Telford with any luck!

Bah! Looks like I put the side cheat lines on slightly high, as the Ejection Seat triangles overlap!

Decalling continued last night, with a couple more nights still to go I reckon.

Bit gutted, but I expect 99% won't notice!

Will post more pics once she's done.
