Evening all, Took my niece to the Fleet Air Arm museum today for her a first ever visit, and thought it rude not to take the camera and tripod along for my first chance to shoot some aircraft of the year. Makes a nice change from a busy model show to be able to get a clear shot of the aircraft, plus I didn't come home many, many pounds worse off! Thought I'd share some of my shots, nothing most of you won't have seen umpteen times before, but what the hell! They might also be of use to Mike in making a decision on where to visit during his trip over here ![]() ![]() FAAM_230111_05 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_04 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_07A by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_11 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_12 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_14 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_15 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_16 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_18 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_19 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_20 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_22 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_23 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_24 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_26A by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_27 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_31 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_32 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_33 by Seamus_85, on Flickr ![]() FAAM_230111_34 by Seamus_85, on Flickr Hope you like, comments welcomed Cheers Shaun

Excellent pics mate! Always wanted to go to the FAA Museum. Think I need to get it organised! Love the pic of the Hunter T.8M!

smashing pictures, I don't remember the museum being that bright though, did you use photo editing on the pictures as whenever I am down there and take pictures they inevitably look like I was in a cave!

You need to have a word with that Phreak fella and get yourself a tripod - something by Manfrotto is the implement of choice I understand. Another nice set of images Shaun. Any chance you could pop over with a tape measure and tell us how long that MiG-15 is?! peebeep |

Thanks guys, much appreciated
 The thought had occurred to me when shooting it, but then I realised I couldn't care less! ![]() Pete, yes, all shots were post edited, as all my shots are; Photoshop Elements 6 is my software of choice. As Paul alluded to, a tripod is a must for this sort of photography. I was shooting between 1 and 2 second exposures in Halls 1 and 4, 1-4 seconds in Hall 2 and anywhere between 5 and 15 seconds in the darkness of the carrier. Clearly, it's impossible to get a sharp picture when the shutter is open for that long, hence the need for the tripod. I've got a pretty old one, but it does the job. I set the camera up manually, fixing the aperture at F9 and adjusting the shutter speed accordingly to get the exposure right, with further tweaking of the exposure and levels in PS where appropriate. For the arty shots where I played around with depth of field, the aperture was dropped to F4.5 and the shutter speed increased accordingly, again to get the exposure right. It is a bit of a pain to shoot in there as the light is largely rubbish. Truth be told, I've edited most of the carrier shots in B&W as even at 15 seconds, I couldn't get enough light into the camera- -ideally I'd need some sort of flash fill, but I've not got the right equipment for that- so I took the easy option and went for the moodier monochrome shots! I didn't find the light too bad around the other halls, a bit tricky in areas of the WW2 hall, but a tweak of the white balance during editing sorted out some of the warmer shots, the Hellcat for example.HTH, and thanks again for the comments Cheers Shaun
