Needing a break from rescribing the Ligthtning's wings i thought id have a go at a WWII tank in the stash, found this in a charity shop for a couple of quid and with such a result bought some Friul Model track to go with. Got the worng ones but :shithappens:

Any ways first pic, with the tracks built up minus the Vinegar and bleach weathering.....

Then with some maskol paint chipping, was gonna try marmite but couldn't waste it :P

back and the tracks

Just a small note on the tracks i left them in for almost 40 hrs in the V+B Mix and the white metal pins vanished and the tracks fell apart, so i replaced the pins with copper telephone wire and drilled out with a 0.6mm drill, copper stands up to the abuse/mix well.

After trying many mixtures of bleach and vinegar i found parazone and sarsons distilled malt vinegar the best for the job.

All the best Jamie

Funny, i don't think i will use anything else ever again if there available, took about 3-4 hrs per side, then had to do it all again after the pins disintegrated after being in the vinegar and bleach mixture for far to long :deadhorse:

Gonna do the links unmade on my Tiger in the B+V mix before i put them together nect time round :) , and throw away the wire supplied and just use copper telephone wire and a 0.6mm drill bit of high quailty for the pins, went through 6 0.5mm drill bits from ebay on about 20 links. Then went down to see good old Russ (LHS) on battersea rise sw11 who had some lovely german drill bits, bought 4 and still have not finshed with the first one and i've dropped it off the desk more than once.

Thanks for the support Peebeep, F4sooty and Sean :D .

All the best Jamie

I assume you know that radio's were not used but only by command tanks at this time in the Russian Army.
So my pun on the twig was not ment as an insult, but that the Russians used twigs to confuse the Germans. :wooo:

No worries, never took it as i insult. Coming frrom south london thats more of a complement compaired to the usual insluts between mates down the pub ;) ...

Thought the aerial looked a bit weak you just reminded me, just waiting for the final coat of klear to cure before i flat coat and add a wee bit more pigment

Thanks for the comments Foxy :D

The tracks obviously look good, but I'm not sure you got the best "bang for your buck" out of them. For me, the money would have been better spent on PE items such as the mesh screen on the engine deck, or a turned metal barrel, but obviously that's a personal preference, and I'm sure that you had fun with the tracks, apart from them improving the look of your model.

There are others who would let you know how much weathering would be appropriate for a T-34. It's my understanding that the average time between repaints of a T-34 was 3 weeks - unless it was destroyed in combat. I could be wrong. I've also been warned not to apply much in the way of stowage to a T-34, as the Commisars were reluctant to let them go too far from camp, lest they continue past the German lines with their white sheets flapping in the slipstream.

I'm jealous, too, that you have the Friul tracks. I have a couple of Tamiya T-34s near completion without any AM stuff, and I know that the tracks are one weakness of the kit. Only one, mind you :)

Thanks Brews

Love the Tracks mate, won't build another WWII tank without them and will add all the other bits you mentioned, if the funds are in place...

Thanks for the support as well.

As far as weathering goes it all down to whoevers making it, but your right n the 3 week thing got a book o em and none of them seem to bashed up, thats why i held back a bit. Was think of doing hits from Tigers but then there would have been no t-34 to look at :D.

Good luck with yours and please post some pictures!!

Thanks, Jamie.
