Evening all,

Made the long trip to Cottesmore yesterday to get some final photographs of the Harrier, in RAF/RN service at least. I think most you know me well enough by now to know the Harrier is my absolute favourite aircraft, so after the announcement of their immenent retirement, a visit to Cottesmore became a priority. This was my first, and now last, visit to Cottesmore, and a day that will live long in my memory, with a dozen Harriers active throughout the day, as well as a welcome visit from a Typhoon, with several more aircraft coming close, including the Boscombe Andover.

Here's a sample of my shots from my favourite trip of the year- I make no apologies for the amount B)

Despite the good weather, the wind wasn't playing ball early on, with the first launches of the day taking off on runway 04. Wasn't too long though before they switched to 22, so a bit of a bonus really, with the opportunity for some alternative angles from the norm.

Rather fittingly, my final shots of the day were of this Harrier landing into the sunset

So that's that then, a great day all round, despite the realisation I'll never see these wonderful aircraft again :(

Hope you enjoyed looking through these, all comments welcomed

Cheers

Shaun :)

10/10, go to the top of the class!

Hurts to think that Cottesmore is going to go, I lived there as a toddler and do remember the 15 squadron Victors doing their thing. the group cap[tain was J-EJ himself!

Stnning photos!
As a member of IPMS Rutland, we meet there every month and the mood has been sombre to say the least since they first announced the base was to close and relocate down the road to Wittering last year. Obviously since then decisions have moved on and the Families Day in September had 'that' feeling to it too.

I've lived under the Harrier flightpath since it first entered service, so for me it's not only a sad time, but makes me feel old too... :codger:

Thanks very much guys, glad you like them. Just wish the circumstances in which they were taken were a little happier :(

Plenty more shots on my Flickr photostream for those interested :)
