Yes, tyres! Me and the OB have been having a long conversation about tyre colour. He generally has tyres that are the wubbery type, I end up with the ones that have to be painted, we're never happy with the colour. So what paint colour do you guys use? Some time ago I bought a tyre black, but it's too grey (mixing required, I guess) and it's driving us nuts that we can't seem to get it right! We use acrylics ... and even tried mixing colours too, to disasterous ends. So if anyone can point us in the right direction ... |

I use Revell Aqua Color Panzergrau (Tank Grey, matt). I think it has the scale look of rubber down to a tee. It also brushs paints very well, with not a hint of brush strokes left behind. Nige. |

Another option is "Vallejo Panzer aces 306 Dark Rubber" which is an absolutey superb paint that brushes perfectly. Perfect for WWII tyres. Also for a slightly darker look you could use "Vallejo Model color 70862 Black grey". Perfect for modern day and is designed to be brush painted. Also for the really light grey looking tyres from WWI etc. you could use Vallejo Panzer Aces 305 Light rubber. |

Which tyre black did you get Harriet? I use Gunze H77 Tire Black almost exclusively for tyre painting, IMO its just the right side of black to be dark grey but not appear to...err...grey, if you understand. |

I have some of that Mike, but I just can't get the stuff to brush paint. Thinned or otherwise. Got any pointers? Nige. |

I have had limited success brush painting it, thinned with IPA (Iso Alcohol, not India Pale Ale  ) and it covers quite well. Though I must admit I normally only ever spray it. |

The paint was bought (at the Nationals 4 or 5 years ago!) is 1004 Tire (?) Black by Aircraft Colors (?). It was alright until recently I looked at the colour and decided it was too grey! Perhaps I'm getting too picky. I don't want to spoil the car for a halfpenny of Tyre Black I can see now I'm going to have to try all your suggestions, so thank you. I also brush paint at the mo - airbrushing larger areas mostly due to cleaning issues! |

I've been using Xtracolor tyre black (X505) for some time now and it looks ok to me, not too black but I do sometimes have an issue with it taking ages to dry. Karl |

Vallejo produce a dark rubber in their panzer aces range which is perfect for tyres. |

Well thank you all, I appreciate it! It looks like a bit of shopping is on the agenda, either that or wait until Yeovilton, I'll be the one with the bags of paint! |
