After having fun building the Mossie I have decided to get back to building some armour. I have chosen the new AFV release, the Engineering version of the Stryker.

Posted Image

I started work on the lower hull section. I have added a few parts to the front of the lower hull which I believe will help to hold the mine plough.

Posted Image

Next come the drivetrain and all the suspension etc.

So far the fit has been excellent and the detail is superb.

All comments welcome.

with the underside work complete for the time being I have moved my attevtion to the upperside of the hull. First task was to construct the side panels. First a stowage area was made.

Posted Image

This was then added to the main side panel. one on each side were the same.

Posted Image

Posted Image

As you can see in the picture above, a section of tow bar was added to the panel. The instructions have you fixing this to the panel with one small pin, at one end only. This seemed a little strange but after looking at some reference pictures it became apparent that the bar was also secured with two straps. To replicate this I used some pe straps from accurate armour.

Posted Image

Along with a few more parts the side panels were added to the upper hull. A lot of the parts are rather small like grab handles and additional armour panels. The detail they add is superb as is the fit.

Posted Image

Next i added the winch system. The front part of the winch system is made of several pieces.

Posted Image

The finished front section(on the right) and the other parts of the winch system.

Posted Image

At the same time of installing the winch system, the cable was also added. This is made of black thread and should look good when painted. Here is the system fully installed along with a few more parts.

Posted Image

I then moved on to the drivers hatch. this is also made up of several parts which add some great detail

Posted Image

Posted Image

Finally the hatch was fitted in place along with a piece of black vinyl. By looking at pictures od the actual hatch it looks like there is a rubber cover is fastened to the rear of the hatch and then on to the main body.

nice progress looks very busy. I wish that trumpeter had supplied clear vision blocks on my TUA, much easier than painting the faces on.

Here is a quick update on my progress wiithe the Stryker.

One of the main features of this variant of Stryker is the remote gun turret. This was built up in stages.

stage 1
Posted Image

stage2...adding the smoke grenade launchers
Posted Image

Posted Image

stage3.....as you can see in the picture below there is some pe parts that need to be added. The pe needs to be bent into shape and to help with this AFV have moulded two shape formers on one of the sprues, a neat idea.( shown in 2nd picture below)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Final stage.....this involves adding the gun an ammo box.

Posted Image

and thats the turret made. All i nned to do is paint it seperatley and add a couple of clear lenses.
The two halves of the stryker were then joined together and the back door added, again before and after shots of the back door.

Posted Image

Posted Image

A stowage rack/basket is then added to the rear.

Posted Image

Finally for this update I added the grills over the engine area. The pe that is included with this kit is some of the thinnest i have ever worked with, alot thinner than Eduard for example.

The next part of the build which I am about to start is the construction of the mine plow.

As the Stryker itself all finished I moved on to the actual plow. It has taken few days to get it assembled as there is an incredible amount of parts that go into building it.

I have taken a few photos to show a step by step of how the plow was assembled.

I now had to attach the plow blades. Each of these blades consisted of 8 parts and were fiddly and time consuming to do.
Trying to align each blade was rather difficult, however after looking at some reference pictures it appearde that the blades over time became slightly dislodge and therefore they were not perfectly flush.

I will attach the plow to the Stryker once the painting has be done. Next I will be priming the Stryker.

The main body, Mine plow and remote gun turret have now been primed using Tamiya XF-19. I always think that once you put primer on it brings the build to life.

I have somehow managed to fall behind with my updates, so here is a quick one to bring you almost up to date.

For the next stage I pre-shaded the panel lines and some other details using Tamiya Flat black.

Posted Image

Now on to the base coat where I choose to use Gunze H303 Green FS34102. My aim was to let the preshading come through and to let the grey primer come through in the centre of the panels to give a faded look.

Also in some areas I applied a heavier coat of Gunze H303 to act as shading.

This is the result

Whilst waiting for the paint to dry I removed the vinyl tyres from their sprue and gave them a gentle sand to get rid of the shiny black look and to make them look a little more realistic.

The one on the left has been sanded with a fine grit sanding sponge
