Help with 1/48 E-3C tail planes decal discolouring

Hi guys,

I really need your help with this one, i am half way through building the Kinetic 1/48 Hawkeye and using the fighter town 'Liberty bell' decals.

The problem i am having is after painting the outer tail fins white and applying the rising sun decals. I used humbrol decal setting solution it has dried with yellow / brown stains. (I will try and upload some pictures later).

if i use thinners (Tamiya X20A) it starts to pull the decals off and it is removing too much of the paint.

Is there any known way of sorting this? Or do i just need just to strip them back and start again.

:crying:

That's a bummer. I think those Tamiya thinners are quite volatile, maybe something a little kinder might do the trick, or even some detergent and water? I've found that window cleaner is useful for removing stains and marks without doing too much damage to painted surfaces. If not you could try masking up and re-painting the white, but if this is too tricky you might have to consider stripping and starting again.

Yep, I have that sheet #48045
"E-2C VAW-115 Liberty Bells"

If I were you, i'd strip it back to bare plastic with oven cleaner and start again, PM me your address and I will post the sheet to you.

cheers,

Mike

Oven cleaner's too aggressive....

try TESCO general purpose cleaner(around 50p per 750 ml)

will do the job nicely
