Well I'm on a roll now so it's time to get started again on this one. A stalled build which I started earlier this year and lost the plot. Here's where I left off,

As you can see not much was completed. I fixed the upper hull and lower hull together contrary to the instructions so I could ensure a nice square fit and fill any joints before adding all the suspension components. This is how it should look,

Cheers guys, well I did a bit last night and got the beastie on it's wheels after finishing the suspension and drive train components.

One thing I did notice whilst studying my refs is that trumpeter would have you adding the wrong wheel covers on the kit, part G18 as opposed to the correct fitting as seen in my ref pictures of A30

G18 is the part fitted to the wheel in the left of the picture below,

Posted Image

I think this was fitted to a very early production or pre production vehicle. My refs show the arrangement as pictured below on the real thing as the right wheel shows above. Luckily these parts are still provided in the kit.

Here is some more progress, a couple of hours per night and I have started to add some of the many stowage boxes and details on the hull. No dramas, the kit supplied etched bits are very easy to work with and have nice detail. In fact the whole kit so far has been very well engineered with very little to correct or fill.

As you can also see I have started to add a few minor additions using tamiya tape, plastic card and some nice accurate armour padlocks to the model. The model is absolutely covered in handles which I would normally add during the final stages of the build but as there are so many I am adding them as I go along so as not to forget later on.

Well the main body of the vehicle is now completed. Obviously I have left off the mirrors and tools until later on. The tow cable supplied with the kit is far too thick and the tow cable ends are far too small so I will be making up a replacement. As you can see I replaced the antenna bases with brass items for no other reason than I had them to hand, the kit ones are just as good.

More straps will be added using tamiya tape after the model has been painted but for now it's on with construction of the launcher.

Great stuff Pete, looking forward to seeing it with some paint on.

The shape of this thing reminds of that old 1980's toy "BIGTRAK", can anyone else see it?

Yes it does look like a big trak! spooky. Well I have now finished the launcher assembly. For a bit of variety I decided to open up the armoured door covering the launcher optics. I used the armoured door as a template and scratched the rest. Some chains where also added to the smoke dischargers.

Getting better all the time!

I might have to get into this non-tracked modern armour malarky. Its the wheels and tracks that put me right off y'see :P

Cheers guys, I am now awaiting the paint to arrive, should have checked before I started building! I am going for a base coat of tamiya NATO green which is a good match for modern Canadian armour. The model will be washed and primed over the next couple of days.

Today I have managed to get some paint on the model. I used tamiya XF67 NATO green then went back over the model with a mixture of NATO green and buff in the centre of panels etc. A blast of klear and I have now started to pick out the details using vallejo colours.

I may go over selected areas again with the lighter colour then some subtle chipping but not much as these vehicles where only in service for a short time.
