Hi guys, Been having some windscreen issues on the Dak, in that I've managed to break not one but two windscreens, in almost exactly the same place. Suffice to say I'm rather annoyed with situation, as I'm now left with two screenless Dakota kits, one of which was coming along rather nicely. So, how could I go about fixing this, other than trying to source a replacement (the fit was awkard anyway, and I'm reluctant to get a third kit just for the glass...). I've read about people using crystal clear (or clearfix?) to fill windows after they get pushed into the fuselage etc, but wasn't sure if that would work on a larger, rectangular hole? Not sure how it would cope with the angle at the centre either.. I'm kinda stumped, so open to any suggestions Cheers Shaun

Hi Shaun, I think you'd be pretty lucky to get Krystal Kleer to fill in a gap like that. My suggestion would be to glue the windcreen pieces back together (don't worry about the join) and stick a piece of masking tape over the whole thing. Then trim it around the edges so that you've got a piece of tape the same shape and size as the windscreen, peel it off, and stick it to some acetate sheet or a bit of clear packaging from a blister pack or something. It should look like a shallow V shape, and if you cut the acetate to the same shape and score and bend it in the middle, you'll have a new windscreen. Peel the tape off carefully, and you can repeat as many times as necessary to deal with future hamfistedness... Hope that helps, Dean |

Here's an idea - a combination of clear plastic (the stuff that you get with new shirts etc) and some thin strips of styrene for the frames. I used this same method on my Shackleton when I had to add additional windows. |

Hi Shaun Around 20 years ago I built the Esci "Que Sera Sera" R4D-5. The windscreen was stupidly undersized (top to bottom) so I opened out the aperture and used 4 separate panels of Evergreen clear plastic sheet - something like .010"~.015". Being polystyrene it cemented just like plastic card and could be filled/sanded producing a good strong joint. As an aside, I also heated a piece of the card and wrapped it around the L/E of the wing to produce a couple of landing light covers. If I had to sdo it again I would use exactly the same material this time. I believe the sheet is still readily available - I bought mine then and recently again at Hobbycraft. Here's the result - sorry for the poor quality - it's a scanned print. Must retake it with the D-SLR sometime! ![]() Hope this helps cheers Rick |

Hi guys, Thanks for taking the time to reply. Mike has kindly offered a canopy form an old kit of his, but as I'm still a canopy down I'll be trying out all your idea when it comes to building the Dak for myself ![]() Cheers Shaun
