Spent a superb day down at Dawlish for this years show. Given the forecast this morning, things didn't look too promising, so it's a miracle we avoided the heavy raiun prmised, excluding the small shower in the morning. Still a grey day which made photogrpahy tricky, but here's a sleection of the better shots I managed.

Love em Shaun!!

So is this the show where you aren't actually on the airfield and the aircraft do the show over the water? Or am I just being a bit thick?

Brilliant Shaun, lovely sharp pix.

@Mike R - yeah, they are over the water, its quite a common thing for a "Seafront Airshow" in the UK. Eastbourne have "Airbourne" every year and Folkestone have one too as do Bournemouth. There are plenty others too IIRC.

Thats very interesting Mike. Sounds like an utterly cool way to see an airshow. Closest we have ar the Blue Angels over San Francisco Bay.

There are plenty others too IIRC.

I went to Southend last May, didn't go to Lowestoft last week, but might pop over to Clacton next week if 'er indoors lets me use the car.

Mike R, seaside shows are OK, but for me it's not the same as being at an airfield, wandering round looking at this and that. Plus I'm one of those weirdos that likes to watch stuff in the circuit and taking off and landing, especially the latter. My all time fave is the Tigercat, those beasties hang in the ground effect, inches off the ground, forever. Marvellous.

Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated

Mike R, as Mike pointed out this is seaside show. What makes it so unique is the photographic opportunities presented by our vantage up 'the hill' which is located directly in line with the display line, providing one of the best backdrops for airshow photgraphy in the country, and getting you about as close to the action as is (safely) possibly. As an example, the Red Arrows were buzzing over our heads at little more than 50' travelling at 400 kts, a pretty spectacular experience. In fact, if anything they were too close, and I just had to stand and watch most of the time as they were just to quick for me

Paul, I largely agree with you, take off and landing provide some good photographic opportunities. Dawlish is the only seaside show I do, but it's simply a mege venue for airshows- I won't get shots quite like these anywhere else

Anyway, here's a handful more edits

Can't argue with that Shaun, the illusion of the photographer being airborne with the subject adds something to the pictures, which are as ever, superb.

Shaun

Thats one reason I like this sort of show. You get an entirely different perspective of the aircraft doing the show. I love that you are virtually eye level with the aircraft. The Lancaster pics really brought that feeling to light with me. well done as always!!

Thanks again guys :) Mike, I was especially pleased to get the Lanc shots, it's usually such a difficult aircraft to get a decent shot of from a normal perspective due to the nature of it's display, so I was over the moon when it ran in over the sea below us

Just to give you an idea of the place, here's a vid from the 2008 show.

Pretty awesome, I think you'll agree! :D

I can't recommend this show enough, serious L&C meet up potential for next years show I reckon :)

WOW! Thanks for the link Shaun! The scenery there looks spectacular. I especially enjoyed the solo Reds diving over the cliffs to do their head on passes. AMAZING! I think I need to plan my trip over around that show!
