Amused To Death

Needed a break from aircraft after a few recent disasters, and this caught my eye last week. So here we are, my first piece of German WWII armour *ever*! It's the Tamiya Panther G. Nothing to say about construction - as with all these Tamiya 1/48th armour kits it's a dream to build. I really wanted something to do some airbrushing on, just 'cos I like airbrushing! The first two shots just show the basic camo freehanded onto the model. Tamiya acrylics thinned with Mr Color levelling thinner. Done pretty roughly, then going back around with more heavily thinned paint at lower pressure to tighten it up some:- ![]() ![]() After that I cut a bit of each colour with Mr Retarder mild to allow me to handbrush, and used a fine brush to apply the ambush dots onto the camo:- ![]() And then I misted over the whole lot with very heavily thinned base colour to remove the starkness and blend it some, finishing with a coat of Tamiya clear with a few drops of buff in it:- ![]() And that's stage one done. Lots more to do yet, washes, filters pastels. . you name it, I intend to try it on this model. It's no particular Panther, just a mish mash of what's in the box as a generic tank to practice some technique on. But fun! |

OKay. . "Drewe's first WWII German Armour project EVER" continues to take shape. As you can see I've added most of the ancilliaries. Each individual has received a filter of the base colour lightened and/or shifted with other browns, greens and yellows and lightened with white, very thin paint, just brushed over the camo colours to further blend them and remove the starkness. Then a very thin general wash of raw umber oil paint thinned with artists turpentine as a more generic filter, and finally a pin wash of raw umber mixed with black around details to pop them a little. Decals were added after the initial filters but before the oil wash. Numbers made up from the ones in the kit as, like I said, a generic tank rather than a specific one. Certainly fun!![]() ![]() ![]() Obviously open to comment/criticism from the armour bods on here! |
