Rather than making all of my own mistakes, I'd like to learn from those who've used these paints before!

What can/can't I use for thinning them is the obvious one? I have Tin Bitz and Boltgun Metal, which I intend to airbrush with. Any odd characteristics I should be aware of before using these paints?

Cheers,
Bill.

try distilled water as a weapon of choice, because the batches channge, don't over thin..

I've thinned them with window cleaner - Turtle Wax Clue Vue to be precise. It worked very well.

i use a drop of tamiya thinners which i put directly into the bottle as i find that Citadel paints tend to get a little thicker overtime.

I generally use IPA in preference to Tamiya thinners, any reason I shouldn't with the Citadel paints? Other than that, I have DI water, while screenwash of various types is plentiful,

Bill.

Why would you thin paint with India Pale Ale

Bill,

just put some ipa into my boltgun metal as a test and it thins it beautifully. whether you would need some retarder in with it i don't know.

All great help thanks, I'll keep the india pale ale for after the painting.....

I'm presuming there's nothing too fragile about this finish, I will need to mask it afterwards, and intend to seal it with Klear.

Cheers,
Bill.

Strangely, I couldn't get the Citadel paints to behave at all with my IPA, but both sprayed quite happily when diluted only with DI water. I've had previous problems with IPA, which I put down to a dodgy ebay purchase. This time it's decent quality stuff from a reliable source though, turned the paint to gunge when they were mixed.....

Cheers,
Bill.

Bill, I've used Xtracylic thinners (its all I had!) and a few drops of Windsor & Newton Acry;ic flow enhancer with Citadel colours (Blood Red is a great match for Signal Red!) and it sprayed on a treat! Chaos Black and Skull White are my paints of choice - for black and white....Mithril Silver - superb!!!

These paints also brush really well - in fact one of the only brands of paints I've used that I can use a brush to touch up areas...

I've used these now with very pleasing results. Agreed they brush nicely too, ideal for touching in shiny bits on 1/72 undercarriage!

Cheers,
Bill.
