I love this paint.

That was until some colours just flat out refused to spray while others went like a dream. Then I applied some RAF Dark Earth tonight that dried nowhere in the ball park and I resorted to some old Aeromaster acrylics.

Anyone else had this or is just me (and it frequently is).

only problem with their metallics- they start to disintegrate if you Klear coat 'em... :(

Interesting you should say that coz I use them a lot and have had no real problems until I tried their matt and satin varnishes...they turned into a milky, sticky mass in the paint cup that was a bugger to clean out, even thinning it with their own thinner didn't help.......odd because the solid colours spray just fine!! :hmm:

The same thing happened to me spraying Vallejo White. All their other paints have behaved OK, and it may turn out to be something I've done rather than the paint itself, but right now...... :hmm:

Cheers,
Bill.

Interesting, though not much difference to what I'm currently doing. I'm using quite a low air pressure, so that's eeasily remedied, but my paint is just turning to gloop in the cup. I have some of the Winsor & Newton fluid retarder here, so I'll try a few experiments with that later.

As an aside, has anyone tried the Games Workshop paints, particularly white? That's one brand I should be able to get locally, if it's worth the effort,

Cheers,
Bill.

I think the key to Phil's method is the paint he's using - Tamiya.

Games Workshop white in the rattle cans is excellent.

I stopped buying Tamiya paints as they seemed to have a short life once opened. I think the local model shop still carries Tamiya paints, though I've not been in there since they stopped selling plastic kits. If not, there may be a trip to Swindon afoot tomorrow, so Tamiya it is then!
Cheers,
Bill.

Tamiya white is tops, been using that for 20 years now, great paint. The only colours of theirs I have problems with are the red and blue which can fracture over time - odd.

I've switched to thinning Vallejo with water (plus a drop of detergent) and it seems to be fine again. Still not convinced about their Dark Earth though.

To tie up with what I wrote elsewhere in my build thread, the Vallejo white sprayed very well when I started afresh, thinned only with DI water.

Tamiya Red was what turned me off their paints. I painted one aircraft OK, used the same colour from the same jar a couple or three weeks later, and it laid down a massively porous surface which no amount of Klear could seal. Some of their others have had a poor shelf life once opened, but it's been more obvious that there was something wrong before I started spraying those.

Anyway, Vallejo's back in favour with me for now, I'm just going to take a little more care and stop assuming that all paints in the range will behave the same way,
Cheers,
Bill.

Hi Bill, I've used Games Workshop /Citadel paints and their Skull White is superb. Sprays through My Iwata a treat - and like Phil in his video - a drop or two of Xtracrylic thinners and W&N retardent works fantastically.

Talking of white.....Citadel's Chaos black is great too - and their Blood Red is a good match for "Signal Red"......
