Posts: 3,691 Group: Admin Member #18 Joined: November 15, 2004	I done a few research on internet that over thousands of kids disappear and some are killed by visiting a chatroom. here the reason kids start chatting to users and views profiles. however users who do this to kids have no clue on what they are kids. they post sexual comments trying to get their address for home and phone number. kids no clue what their doing and agrees to meet them then they disappear. what said is that 1/4 of that number never tells their parents in what is going on in the chatroom. i don't believe a 12 year old belongs on a chatroom anyway.

Posts: 2,895 Group: Members Member #8 Joined: November 11, 2004	Again parents fault, these are proablly kids that dont know how to properly use the computer and get sucked in there are programs that are inexpensive when it comes to your childs life. i.e. I-gear, NetNanny, Cybersitter, and others they BLOCK what your kids view on the internet, NN and igear are great, they even block programs suchas Yahoo Mesanger and AIM plus some others not just internet explorer. plus i know that Yahoo and AIM have a block password protechted so kids can't change it. to protect them from "unwanted" users and keeps them out of chatrooms ;) but more than likey the PC the kid is using is unprotected from this, and is IN THE KIDS ROOM, knock knock is anyone HOME???? you're just asking for trouble if you're not viewng what your kid is doing on the internet, it's a very scary and corrupt place for little childeren to be playing on. --fsr

Posts: 1,750 Group: Members Member #33 Joined: December 11, 2004	While that is all good and well, parents should control their kids blah blah blah children should also be taught from the beginning what is right and wrong within a chat room. Children know not to talk to strangers in real life. Why not enforce that within a internet scene aswell. Only talk to friends. Get friends to introduce you to another person ONLY if they KNOW that person. However 80% of the focus should actually be on the sickos who go out meet and kidnap the kids. Early dection by child porn sites and stuff like that is a major. The police and net nannies or whatever have their work cut out for them already but if they could focus more on detection and stopping these issues rather than education after a tragedy there would be less of these horrible problems. Posts: 2,895 Group: Members Member #8 Joined: November 11, 2004	true. but it's hard to figure out who will do that until it happens then it it does i think they are not allowed around a pc again, or atleast one with a internet connection. that's why it's best to restrict what your kids view or tell them right from wrong. and keep telling/enforcing it.

Posts: 2,895 Group: Members Member #8 Joined: November 11, 2004	well in the us people are told who is living around them. those people are also monitered weekly then they get SLOWLY taken off restriction untill its like every 3 months. their internet activity is monitored or put to a complete stop. they dont get new names but they are relocated and they have to tell the postal service which tells everyother goverment organization, and if they dont they go straight to jail do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars

And some of the content material available on the internet really doesn't help matters either though. If sickos see things they like online it doesn't really discourage them from continuing their acts does it?

If you meet a strange man in a seedy section of town you have to have some idea of the possibilities that will happen. Here's a good TIP::::: bring a friend and a cell phone to call 911 just incase if it seems good you can tell your friend to go... but maje sure he/she stays near by. and DONT leave the sight or calling range of people... also call out "FIRE!!!!!" not "HELP im being raped by a stranger!!!!" people respond faster to fire then someone raping you.

It is sad about the fire getting a better response but that is part of todays society isn't it?

Posts: 719 Group: Members Member #49 Joined: January 12, 2005	thats sad my cousin met someone on the internet met him at the mall and was almost raped in the back of a store, she was like 16 at the time...shes never really gotten over it though.....it makes me so mad how people can do that to kids/teens and still sleep at night knowing that they ruined someones life...i don't care if they have some mental issue...its still wrong! :angry:
