I read in an Swedish magazine not that long ago that Kasumi was the first character Itagaki worked on for DOA, he began in his 20's with her. If I remember correctly. That's the reason she's his favorite.

I gotta ask then. What person and/or other character inspired Kasumi?

I'm sure of two obvious ones. Jann-Lee and LeiFang are both IMO inspired by the
best-known martial artist of the 20th Century, and likely the most talented one of our
time, Bruce Lee.

come to think of it, doesn't itagaki-san have a daughter? i wouldn't be surprised if she was his inspiration for kasumi, but it's just a hunch i've on it. as for the rest of the roster:

Bass: inspired from the one and only "Hulk Hogan".

Zack: inspired from the ever so controversial "D-Rod" himself.

Lisa: now this is just a hunch, but i believe her rendition was from a luchodor wrestler by the name of "Ultimo Dragon" (his name illudes me if confused). i'm not a huge wrestling fanatic, but back during my childhood, i remember such a character in the wwe. other additions are "rey mysterio" and an other all-japan luchodor wrestler/s (if there is one).

if we are talking "character" here, not fighting style..i dont think Lisa was inspired that way..he wanted to have a luchadora character in the game, and they came up with Lisa, i dont think her character personally was based on anyone in particular, like Zack, Bass and Jann-Lee obviously are

probably so. i only made that assumption based on her last outfit. when i unlocked it, she reminded me of "ultimo dragon", color scheme included. not saying that this is a huge influence, but it may have played a role within her development fighting wise.

character wise, lisa doesn't have enough of a background to support this theory. maybe in DoA5 her personality will develop more than what's currently seen.

oh yes definately, plenty of stuff about her could have been directly influenced by something else, its only common sense when youre creating something that you would have been influenced by something..i was just referning to her character/personality

Hmm.. I'm afraid I don't have a whole lot to go on to get an idea of character
influences, except for the "obvious ones."

Going back to the voices thing for a minute, I wonder how they picked who did which
character.

I have a theory on how they are hired. In this case, Tecmo calls up a well-known
agency (read: Aoni Production) and say "I need such-and-such number of people." The
agency then picks the group of seiyuu for the project and sends them all over for
recording, though not necessarily at the same time.

What I really wonder is who says for example "Ok, Midorikawa-san, you'll be Ein."

However it works, I'll give Tecmo marks for consistency- AFAIK only 2 voice actors
changed through a decade of DOA. Not only that, but most if not all of them kept
the same character. (Though sometimes they had small additional roles.)

That's wrong, Tina's voice changed too, because her voice in the first one sounded like a woman in her late thirties, and that was changed to a more younger voice.

LOL, Tina's old voice sounds like a man trying to talk as a woman. It was so creepy listening to it.

I love her new voice, she sounds so much better. :)

I had two in mind - Tina and of course Kasumi.

Was there a third voice change as well?

Seems like Tina wasn't originally a blonde, she was a brunette. I wonder why
Tecmo changed that.

I like the newer Tina voice (Yuuko Nagashima, I believe) better than the older one
(Mami Koyama.)

to reflect her newfound status as a popular female wrestler and sex symbol/icon. being a "blonde" is an age old stereotype pertaining to fitting in "hollywood". tina's achieving it all, and one of those keystones was to change her hair color.

being a blonde also has the stereotype of having a lack of inteligence (i.e ditzy). tina is by no means stupid, and for that i don't like her as a blonde, it's too generic.

she should be a brunette again, but i can't make that change........
