Why so little Helena media?

Why so little Helena media?

Posts: 7 Group: Kunoichi Forum Member Member #101 Joined: April 25, 2004	Why is it when a DOA series game is released, Helena always gets close to no coverage? When DOAX was being made, she got a short CG in the trailer, and a few photos. The official trailers for DOAU feature gameplay of every character except for Helena (and Hitomi). Trailer 1 (Starts with snow covered buildings) features: Ayane, Lei Fang, Tina, Bass, Kasumi, Ein, Zack, Gen Fu, Hayabusa and Jann Lee. Missing are Bayman, Leon, Hitomi and Helena. Trailer 2 (Stars with the Kasumi Kata) features: Kasumi, Ayane, Lei Fang, Gen Fu, Zack, Ein, Bayman, Tina, Leon, and Jann Lee. Missing are Hayabusa, Hitomi and Helena. All the pictures released almost always show Kasumi, Ayane, Lei Fang, Hitomi, or Tina. It seems like all the other girls get 5 times more media coverage than Helena.

Luckily, she will almost definitely be the main character of DOA4, so we'll see here a lot more.

But I think maybe that makes her more special !

Put it this way, most of the DoAU media+screenshots depict of the following: Kasumi Ayane Hitomi I say these top three mainly because of the media showcasing. If you haden't noticed, these three pertain to the "fanboy" persona, not saying that any of us here are within the same wave, yet you get the idea. Helena's a sophisticated woman, with her own style and elegance. Plus she's somewhat difficult to use because of her fighting style. I do believe that she has a small following, and no where near as big as the three above. I'll admit, i was on the "Kasumi bandwagon" for quite some time, but i left it mainly because of the few aspects: -I'm just not good with her anymore...... -Way too much praise over her for my tastes -A Huge fan of the "infamous gals" Anyways, that's my opinion on the matter. I know it suckx to a degree, but in my opinion, helena becomes much more special to her "devoted fanbase". :china: to all Helena players and fans!

Posts: 166 Group: Kunoichi Forum Member Member #200 Joined: July 7, 2004	personnaly, i like the fact that the media dusnt feature helena alot, because, since i will play as her a lot i will be suprised to find out what her costumes are, and what her stroy mode is like. we've all seen kasumi and ayane's costumes so there will be no suprise there. but we will/shud be treated nicely when th game finally comes out. finally like february for me......... damn britain

Posts: 16 Group: Kunoichi Forum Member Member #1,775 Joined: August 28, 2007	Helena, does have a fan following, in my experience I've found fans of Helena seem to be a little more dedicated to their character then fans of the other girls. Be it with their personal collection they have of various games, models or other material or even knowledge of her backstory or playstyle. Lack of material has always been an issue with her though, which I think is more along the lines of the marketing heads at Tecmo then her actual appeal to fans or number of fans. What I mean by that, is if you've been a fan of the series for a long time, recall all material, movies, screenshots, model kits...etc of all the girls in your mind. What comes to mind right away is an image of, "Look at how much skin I can show" from all the girls, all except Helena. The image the other girls present don't fit Helena at all, it's not her character and you don't expect her to appear like that. How many fans of her who have DOAX2 actually put her in the 1,000,000 Zack Dollar outfits? I have her complete collection, I'd never even think of putting her in the Knock Out, it doesn't fit her. What happens, is the marketing heads who understand the basic, "Sex Sells" idea, see the refined, elegant Helena who never appears in the games with that theme and so they pass her over on promotional material. That's pretty much my opinion for the lack of Helena on promotional material, which in turn reflects most people who get a taste of the DOA series don't become fans of her unless they dig into every character of the game and find her. (I was one of them, originally a Kasumi fan, but her fighting style got real old, real fast) If you're a collector of material, it's actually a boon as Helena stuff is few and far between so it makes it easier to get a complete collection. Better then a Kasumi collector, her stuff is like weeds.

Kasumi is my favorite but not because everyone loves her because I despise that part, lol. She just fits what I like in a girl when it comes to the DOA Female personalities. Itagaki shows her the most because she's his favorite so by the media seeing more of her she became the most popular. Although Kasumi is my favorite DOA girl I know she's not the best one on the roaster, I however like her the best. Well that's my nothings on that, but about the Helena deal, she's an awesome character but unlike the Kasumi players, the Helena players focus more on her fighting style than fan art and whatnot, so that my take on that.
