August 10, 2004 - Though Midway's Mortal Kombat: Deception is still several months away, the wait for it hasn't stopped fan anticipation one iota. Whether it's the prospect of playing online, toying around with all-new fatalities, or nabbing some of the special bonuses exclusive to the Limited Edition versions, the reasons that players want to own it are as varied as the identity of the fans themselves.

One such possible motivation could be the inclusion of Mortal Kombat's collection of mini-games. Separate from the main fighting mode but completely realized experiences themselves, these bonus specialties could potentially be just as much fun as the main game; and after having played Deception's fighting aspects on several occasions already, that's saying quite a bit.

In case you haven't heard of them by now, MK: Deception's mini-games are made up primarily of three specific options: The Konquest Mode, the Chess Game, and the Puzzle Game. Konquest Mode is obviously the most prolific, as it allows players to participate in an adventure that takes them through the entire Mortal Kombat universe. Here, gamers will be able to meet other characters, learn their stories, and understand all the fighting styles of every personality.

The chess game is just that: chess. But instead of the traditional piece taking that you'd see in a regular match, players will have to fight for the pieces they want to claim. It's strategy and fighting all in one. The Puzzle option, on the other hand, is very reminiscent of the old-school PSOne game Puzzle Fighter. Essentially a variation on Tetris, this particular mind-boggler will play little combat sequences as you continue to do well against your opponent. Win two rounds in a row, and your character will even perform a special fatality. Neat.

And while you may have already seen some of these in action before, our newest video allows the MK team to tell you about the goodies firsthand; complete with all-new footage and demonstrations of how each of them work.
