New Soul Calibur II Artbook Announced
By David Smith
4/19/2004

Namco plans to commemorate the first anniversary of Soul Calibur II's console release with a new limited-edition artbook, Impress Game Watch reports today. The Artworks of Soul Calibur II, due for release in Japan on April 22, contains some 96 pages of new high-quality CG artwork and other illustrations of the characters from Namco's famous fighting game.

The book is priced a bit high for only 96 pages at 2,520 yen (about $22), but publisher Softbank employed a special printing process to replicate the artwork with high fidelity, and it's an oversized production in B5 format, 182mm by 257mm. Check it out, if it strikes your interest, through a favored retailer of imported publications.

- Wow, I really wanna get my hands on that! The Art Book Gamestop included with the SC2 release wasn't as good as I expected =/... The price doesn't seem to bug me too much though (Art books I get, like the Final Fantasy Visual Arts Collections usually go up to $30+).

Me too but they didn't really release an artbook from Japan that I saw, only the art that came with the 2 disc soundtrack book.

Is there another one in Japan?

Nope. There was an artbook released with the Brady Games Guide but that was in the U.S.

Straight from Softbank:

Thought so, that artbook was ok, but I'd like to see the Japanese version.

Hopefully this new artbook will be 110% better than the Brady Games one

Got it. The store only had one copy left after I bought my two! One of my SC friends came in and bought one at the same time.

Some of the characters faces look more realistic and less cartoony.

Also has the stages, weapons, illustrations and b/w epilogue pics.

Better quality (detail) and color than the Brady Art Book (although some of the pics are the same). The JP book is on glossy paper.

I knew the Japanese version would be a lot better, I shouldn't have even worried about it.

Awesome :)
