Back in 2002, when Xbox Live launched, Microsoft promised that its online gaming service would evolve. The service included from the get-go innovative features such as a unified identity (Gamertag), voice features via the Xbox Communicator, content downloads thanks to the built-in hard drive, a Friends List, and much more.

Since its launch, Xbox Live has incorporated several new features. In 2003, Microsoft updated the Xbox Live service with goodies like Xbox Live Web, which provided access to scoreboards and the Friends List on Xbox.com. Xbox Live Now updated the Xbox Dashboard to include new functionality such as the ability to check your Friends List and send invites without the need of playing an Xbox Live game. It also allowed you to start a voice chat session right from the dashboard. These upgrades, plus XSN functionality, shaped what was simply known as Xbox Live 2.0

As the subscriber base gets bigger, new countries join the service and with a game that will redefine online multiplayer coming later this year, Microsoft is incorporating even more features to Xbox Live.

Code-named “Tsunami”, the new set of features will reinforce the social gaming experience Microsoft is promoting worldwide. TeamXbox has learned that these new features make emphasis on teams, also known as clans, in the online multiplayer ghettos.

We can confirm that you’ll be able to send messages to teammates, challenge other clans and check your clan statistics at any given time. The new features will give more power to gamers, allowing clans’ admins to build different type of competitions.

Clans will also be able to create, share and update symbols, rosters, maps and other user-created content; all via online storage and linked to a specific game.

“Tsunami” will also incorporate MSN alerts and MSN Messenger features that will let clans invite members or guests to scheduled and ongoing competitions.

So, as you can see, Microsoft is taking notice of the community feedback and incorporating a lot of features so you can have the ultimate online gaming experience. Soon, we’ll be the envy of PC gamers.

Stay tuned. We’ll have more on “Tsunami” soon.
