At last, it's mine!

I've finally gotten my hands on a copy of DOA 4, you know, as soon as I bought my XBOX 360 in January this year that game suddenly became rare, four months later I find it, and it was worth the wait.

Overall, the gameplay has improved a lot on gameplay that was great to begin with. The characters are more colorful and fun than ever, the new moves are great too. I really liked this game, it's probably my favorite of the franchise.

The CG movies are great too, however, they make me only wish they'd make an all CG movie of DOA (like that advent children FF movie) instead of that craptacular but oddly entertaining DOA that has been made. Oh well, what can you do.

Rumors?

Posted by RisingDragon54 (Kunoichi Forum Member) at Jul 5 2007, 09:15 AM. 9 comments

Sorry if I sound nooby or anything, but I have heard that the DOA4 discs weren't very good and have a tendency to fail - either with glitches or it would just stop working altogether. Not to mention, they scratch easier. Of course, I think that it's a rumor from people who don't take care of their discs but I was thinking of getting it and if I have to buy a new copy every month, I don't think it would be worth it.

Have any of you had to replace your copy?

Is there any way to move the pictures you take in DoA4 to your comp? If there's not, I can't see many uses for the photo mode. ARE there any uses for it?

Anyone tried the XA data exchange thingy?

I need help, I have the Xbox 360 (as of today, yay me)

And I already had DOA4, but here is the thing, it doesn't work, it loads normally but when I get to the title screen where press start is nothing happens, I figured the game was broken somehow and I just bought a new copy of the game, and the exact same thing happens, I know it's not my controller because Tomb Raider Legend works just fine, I'm so confused, please help me!

DOA4 in-depth

Everything is on default settings... ;)

free cancel - by hitting :f in a string you clear the commands and can attack with any strike/throw without having the string continueing. this is a very useful tactic.

side step(ss) - to side step means to avoid an oncomming attack by moving to the background or foreground. (Also called Free Step / Free Step Dodge (FSD))

side step move(ss move) - an attack that avoids other attacks by moving to the background or foreground.

defensive hold(dh) - a defensive hold is the term used for the counter system. "diagonal forward up" for all high strikes, "back X" for mid punches, "forward X" for mid kicks, and"diagonal back-down" for all lows.

parry - a parry is an alternative to the defensive hold. a parry will stop all strikes on the level of the parry. if you do a high parry it parries all highs and a mid parry parries all mids. a parry usually grants good advantage or sometimes guarantees a followup strike but the parry itself doesnt actually do damage. only a few characters have a parry. you cannot parry out of a stun.

advanced hold - an advanced hold is a more damaging defensive hold. an advanced hold is done by doing a double direction hold. for example: an advanced mid kick hold would be done by doing "back forward X" instead of "forward X" . only a few characters have an advanced hold.

close hit - characters have certain power moves that, when they it at a VERY close range, inflict more damage. (Also called "Proximity Hit" or PH)

counter hit/blow(ch) - counter hit means that a character was hit while doing a strike.

high counter hit/blow(hc) - this is a term describling when a character is hit out of a throw attempt or while backdashing

counter throw(ct) - this means that a characters throw was beat by another throw wether its because 1 throw was one the screen first or had more priority.

high counter throw(hct) - this means that a character was thrown out of a defensive hold.

tech crouch - this is a term used to describe a move, that when it comes out, puts the character in crouch thus making the attack avoid highs.

catch throw aka offensive hold(oh) - a throw, that once on screen and in its active frames, beats strikes that dont tech crouch.

high crush and low crush - a high crush is a move that beats all highs once its on the screen. for example.. Gen fu's "diagonal forward-down P+K" is a high crush. a low crush is a move that beats all lows when its on the screen. an example of that would be Hayate's "diagnoal forward-down X+K"

guard break - a guard break is a strike that when blocked prevents the other character from blocking the next strike and unless the character holds the strike is guaranteed.

guard crush - a guard crush looks like a guard break only instead of the character being unable to block, the character is just at a big disadvantage.

techroll - a techroll is when the character hits the ground and quickly recovers by rolling off the ground and back to their feet. by doing this the character cannot wakeup kick but gets off the ground and avoids forced techroll.

forced techroll - when a character is grounded they can be forced into techrolling by strikes that hit grounded opponants. in being forced to techroll the character loses the wakeup kick and is at extreme disadvantage.

wakeup kick - when grounded or slumped on a wall, a character has the option to use a wakeup kick. this is 1 of 3 kicks that hit high, mid, or low and are almost unbeatable.

frame advantage - in doa when frame advantage is talked about it refers to moves when blocked. for example, if the last hit of Gen Fu "diagonal forward-down K,P,P" is blocked it leaves the opponant at -6 or Gen Fu at +6. this means that the opponant cannot do anything for 6 frames. this means that the Gen Fu player is at 6 frames of advantage.

frame trap - a frame trap is when you put your opponant in a mixup by using frame advantage. for example: blocking Ein "diagonal back-up P" with your back to the wall puts you at disadvantage. if you attempt to strike Ein can use "diagonal down K,K" for a damaging wall combo, if you attempt to block or hold Ein can "diagonal forward-dwon x2 P+X" for a damaging wall throw. this mixup was forced by frame advantage.

slow escape - a slow escape is donw by rapidly tapping buttons and directional commands. this can get you out of stuns or off of wall stuns quickly without having to hold

hard stun - a hard stun is a stun that makes a "crash" sound when the blow connects. this stun cannot be slow escaped.

lift stun - a lift stun is a stun that lifts the opponant off their feet. this stun cannot be slow escaped.

crumple stun - a stun where the the opponant bends forward then begins to crumple to the ground unless they hold. this stun cannot be slowescaped

seated stun - a stun where the opponant is knocked inot a sitting state. this stun can be slowescaped.

spinning stun - this stun causes the opponant to go into a spinning state allowing you to continue the combo. this stun can be slowescaped.

Unsafe on block - Attacks that leave you at enough disadvantage after block (usually at least 6-8 frames) are considered unsafe. After unsafe attack your opponent can do guaranteed damage against you, and there is nothing you can do about it. This guaranteed damage often is from throws, but in some cases also from attacks.

Throw punishment - Throwing an opponent after he did an unsafe attack.

Whiff punishment - Punishing a whiffed attack/throw/hold during opponent's recovery frames. This gets you guaranteed damage. You can whiff punish with both attacks and/or throws (depending on the situation).

Just Frame Hold aka JFH - Using a hold right after attack has stunned you (during it's recovery frames). This way you can recover from the hold as fast as possible, and block your opponent's next attack. Needs very precise timing to be effective, and cannot escape from all stuns (just like slow escape).

Fuzzy guard - A technique that can dodge all throws while also blocking all standing attacks at the same time. Do a fast forward crouch dash and keep crouch dashing for ~12 frames. Then cancel the dash with :f to block immediately. This way all throws and jabs whiff against you and you can still block all the slower attacks after them. Very hard to time constantly because situations vary in real matches. Does not work against 11-12 frame mids or against delayed throws. Also you are still vulnerable to all low attacks.

Well here ya go guys.....hehe

When you win a match without getting hurt once, it will result in a special ending taunt. Each character has two (the second if you get a perfect match again) so post the ones you know.

HELENA
1. "Now do you understand?" (PWNT!!!!)
2. "You must cleanse yourself in Valhalla."
DOA3 Favorites
1. "Stay down." (PWWWWNNTTT!!!)

KOKORO

2. "Have a nice day!"

CHRISTIE
1. "I have no interest in you."
2. *Laughs* (My favorite one)
