Charlie Tango DX is a group dedicated to Hobby Radio Users in all forms, whether CB, Amateur, PMR446, Scanning and Short Wave Listening.
We are a very active and friendly group that welcomes anyone from anywhere in the world who has an interest in Radio, regardless of their level of experience, their equipment, their location, or their radio preference. We have members varying from fully qualified operators on the Amateur Bands, to newcomers who have just bought a PMR446 set, and many CBers both old and new. All are equal on the Site.

The CT Site contains many reviews, tips and modifications within the forums, and we take pride that no sensible question is ever left unanswered, and nobody is ever belittled or mocked for asking an honest question, no matter how simple it may seem. We were all new to the hobby once.

It's sad that these clowns ruin what can be good qso's but it works both ways.
When on ch19 i call out for any 26 or 163 div i usually get a barrage of abuse about haggis/kilts/whiskey and "OI JOCK/JIMMY". When i qsy to another channel it's always the better operator that follows.

it was a lot worse on 14AM/ or early uk/cb fm in the 80,s was the peak
of abuse on cb now its pretty much a dieing hobby with just some old coffin dodgers tying to keep it alive refering to my self(@ reader.s) LOL

I must admit that getting back into CB after so many years is a bit disapointing, in the last 6 months I've heard 2 possible contacts and managed to chat to 1, other than that it's white noise :headbang: . Generally I keep the set on scan 'just in case'. We've been badly flooded here and I thought I might find someone on the CB, but no such luck. I'm guessing they all use mobile phones nowadays, never mind I'll keep my ears on for the time being pending the future of the CB set ;)

Ive spoken to quite a few guys on ssb from Dorset,cb ukfm is much quieter than ssb and when the skip rolls in 11m is very busy..

My advice would be to try ssb

This Summer has been pretty disappointing for 11m FM skip. I am fairly sure that by July last year we'd had quite a few days when Europe was "open" on Regular CB, and more occasions when short skip gave "interesting" UK contacts.

We do seem to go through phases around where I live when you'll find a bit of life on the UK and CEPT band, and then another period when you can scan all 80 channels and find little or nothing, or just some idiots swearing. It seems to come and go around here.

As the two post above have suggested, that is why a lot of people more onwards from "regular CB" into :pirate: Freebanding or Amateur, or Both.

It isn't terribly difficult to make a start in either.
  • To be a Freebander all you'd need to do is upgrade your set to a Sideband CB with the High Band, and wear an eyepatch, red-beard and Pirate Hat (or is it just Ugs that has to dress up??).
  • But if you want to stay 100% legal, or if you're sea-sick or allergic to parrots, then Amateur Operating is probably the way for you to go. The first level licence is intended to be straightforward and within the reach of anyone and it can be obtained after just one weekend of Training, or after a half-dozen evening sessions.
