I don't think Marco Pierre-White or Heston Blumenthal need be worried just yet, but here's a video of some cooking I did when camping out a couple of nights ago.

I'm quite a camping novice, so as I did with the hillwalking prep, I'm trying all the kit out before heading out to more challenging locations - the idea behind it all is a plan to do some activations on some small islands, but work commitments will prevent that happening for a while :(

For what it was, the grub was rather tasty and no subsequent gut trouble to report :~

nice to see you trying new kit :D

ive been camping since the early 70's and its all down to improvising

use 1 pot for as many jobs as you an think.

cattle drinking tanks full of water and in most feilds are good cool box's

hazel stick out of the hedge makes a good walking stick/antenna support/washing line prop/skewer for toasting

a doc leaf has many uses ,spit on it and rub on nettle sting and also the other use, if caught short

a length of string has to many uses, to many to list here

if you do get to the top of a hill and find you have forgotten something dont panic :@ just sit and think logically and most times something will come to mind,

the main thing is to enjoy and for it not to be a big task,

My top tip if you're a coffee drinker - get some small ziplock bags and before you go measure out your coffee, sugar, powdered milk etc into the bags so that one bag makes one drink. Then all you have to do is heat your water, empty a bag in and you'll have perfect coffee in no time. I usually take at least two ready mixed bags per day I'm out. No glass, no liquid, no mess, minimal weight and room. Also don't bother with the fancy aluminium water bottles. Normal mineral water bottles are lighter and can be crushed to reduce size when empty.

Some good tips :thumb:

If you want to be really lazy, ready-mixed Nescafe 3-in-1 coffee sachets are available from LIDL, Iceland and places like Poundland and they are rather nice (they also do 2-in-1 for those who don't take sugar).

I'll be trying out a tiny Hexamine stove out shortly - I hope it works, because it's tiny and would be ideal for a wild camp ;)
