Hi Mark.
I have had my Sirio Top One up in about a year now and I am very pleased with the antenna. It is not as broad band, but 27 and 28 MHz working very well. One off the benefits of the antenna is that it is lightweight and is only 3.6 meters tall and works well against both verticala and horizontal stations, very stabil against strong winds.
What I think it's a price worthy of the antenna and that is easy to handle and install. :thumb:

I have one mate... great antenna for the size of it... heres a link to a review I did on another antenna forum a while back...

http://www.worldwidedx.com/cb-antennas/134322-sirio-new-top-one-short-review.html

I actually have a second one like new in the box that I might sell... the shop I bought it in was closing down so I got them at a good price... had the second one up for a few weeks at my parents place but had to take it down again... literally like brand new... send me a pm if you're interested and I'll do a good deal for you... :)

Mine is an Astroplane, the predecessor to the Sirio Top One.

I have heard they are of similar performance. I have talked from Australia to EU, and from Alaska to South Africa with mine Astroplane.
A wonderful antenna and the smaller size makes it ideal for limited space installations. The higher you go with it the bigger it behaves, too!

Mark my dad got one of these antennas over a year ago and after comparing it with his antron it is a good improvement. His is 36ft to the tip (which it radiates from) and it performs excellent in rx and tx, when i go round and use his set or we run comparison copy's it keeps up with my imax all day, which is surprising to me but it does.

I am well impressed and if it wasn't for me needing a straight up pole type antenna for tree mounting i would have one up tomorrow. The bandwidth is 2 megs and i have dx'd west coast usa and many more from this very underrated antenna.

They are quite well made too the only tip i would give is to tie wrap the lower ring on the groundplane to the pole allowing for a little play but not allowing it to sway too much.

Knights have the sirio topone in and an astroplane exact copy in too i can't vouch for that one though.

An impressive antenna to me, i don't know how it works but it does.

Thanks for the replys .Around here they all seem to have been doing the 827 and gainmaster thing and imax and as i use my home made 2el quad to work dx and have a a99 with fire up top and ground plane kit i thought it would be nice to just be different and thought about the Top one as back in the old days i had a skylab 1/4wave base antenna that was great for dx .I will post a build up and fitting up thread if i do get one .

Cheers Mark 554.

The Sirio Top One is a look-a-like, that's where it ends. The original Astoplanes are 5/8 wave, the Sirio is a 1/4 wave. Look closley at the feed point on both antennas, that will give you a clue. I have a 5/8 clone up and is superb. I will post photos and points of interest under the heading of Astroplane later for those who are interested. If you do a search on youtube under Astroplane or rradishuk there is a video, cna't quite get the link to work.

Hi Guys
I developed a fault and have been off air for a while.
It seems like it is something to do with my coax.

Anyway I now have new RG213 (30 meters) fixed on to a new Sirio Top-One.
My mast is around 16 feet above ground level and I would say the tip of the antenna is around 28 feet or so.

The problem I am having though is that my SWR is a little high.
If I have 5W FWD power my SWR reads around 2.
If I increase my FWD power my SWR goes up.

Great, just when I thought I might be back in business I still have problems.

I have not yet made a RF choke (Balun) would this increase my SWR?
Is the Antenna not high enough?
As I write this I hear someone on T5 from 110 Div so I am getting ok RX.

I think the cone bottom tubes is slightly too short, around 1300mm. They should be 1305mm.
My Gamma match assembly is spot on at 580mm.

My old Gain Master is laying in my garden. I think that water could have got from the antenna and into my coax, but that is just a guess. I did have some water droplets inside the antenna when I took it down.

Any Ideas guys please?

OK the neigbours must think I am a right nutter!

I have only taken my Sirio Top-One down,
Put together my Sirio Gain-Master,
Put that up
and now my SWR is sweet; 1.2 full PWR on FM Muppets.
I seem to have more static noise but I do think I am hearing a bit more.

These antenna's have been up and down more times than a yoyo (clean version lol).

Oh well I have my can o beer and I can sit in front of my set again.
Lets see how things go.

Cheers and Beers  Sheridan.

Sheridan the gamma match at 580mm was not correct on the topone i tuned in it's only a guide. I had to alter this measurment by 30 to 40mm but i can't remember which way for a near flat swr on 555.

Best of luck :thumb:

Seems as though you are impressed with this antenna. Would it perform better than my 1/2 wave Silver Rod please?

I just missed an Avanti Astroplane on an auction site a while back and was really looking forward to trying one, great reports from history and it was said to have worked well down amongst hills and up high for DX and local groundwave.

As The Crowman says the new Sirio top one is at first glance similar to the astroplane but the astroplane is electrically a 5/8 wave in length compared to the center fed Sirio top one which is a 1/4 wave length, two different antennas.

From what I hear the Sirio top one is quite a good performer too.

As mentioned too knights are doing an identical copy of the original astroplane (the BT101) in limited supply for 74 pounds.

I would love to here comparisons between the old avanti astroplane/new BT101 compared to the Sirio top one.

I';m just wondering if you guys have tried the Top One at different heights, as I have not.
Mine is on a 27' mast, putting it at almost 36 ' . If it will make a big difference, I will change it, if not
I'll just leave it. It works really well the way it is :thumb: :thumb: B)
